The big news heading into tonight's game between the Cowboys and the Niners in Santa Clara is that the Dallas is concerned about the turf at Levi's Stadium. The field is apparently in such poor condition that the 49ers had to cancel five of eight scheduled practices. This has the potential to dramatically increase the risk of injury, and that's why Dallas is saying that Romo will appear briefly, if at all.
Jason Garrett has never been one to take pre-season games very seriously, and that is evidenced by his career record of 7-11 in exhibition games. The Cowboys were 0-4 last year, and went on to have their best season in over a decade. The number one priority tonight will be avoiding injury, and the final score won't hold any significance for Garrett and the Cowboys.
While the Niners lost in Week 1, they do come away with several positives. Backup quarterback Blaine Gabbert threw for 86 yards and a TD on 8-of-11 passing, and San Francisco led 10-8 at halftime. Rugby star Jarryd Hayne looked dangerous, picking up 63 yards on just five carries.
