This is a 10* play on the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Chicago Cubs won eight straight games to wrap up the regular-season and shut out the Pirates 4-0 at Pittsburgh in the Wild Card game. I don't like their chances in the opener of the NLDS against the Major League best St. Louis Cardinals tonight though.

Jon Lester (11-12, 3.34 ERA) will toe the slab for the Cubs and he struggled in his last meeting with the Cardinals when he conceded four runs on six hits and three walks with a pair of homers over six innings of a 4-3 loss on Sept. 20. Jason Heyward is 10-for-24 with four doubles and a homer in previous meetings and Matt Holliday 5-for-9 with one extra base hit.

The Cardinals hand the ball to John Lackey (13-10, 2.77 ERA) who's dominated the Cubs over three meetings this season. Lackey conceded only three runs with 19 strikeouts over 21 2/3 innings and was rewarded with a 2-0 record. He's been almost un-hittable home at Busch posting a 1.93 ERA over 17 home-starts for the season.

The Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was injured tagging out the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo sliding into the plate on Sept. 20 in Chicago and missed the remainder of the regular-season. He's expected to be back behind the plate here wearing a hard plastic molded splint to protect a strained left thumb ligament.

Take STL.
