Rating: 8*

The Houston Astros ended July by getting swept by the Tigers over three games at Detroit, but they opened the new month with a 2-1 extra innings win against the Blue Jays. I like the Astros to claim game 2 of the series tonight behind Lance McCullers.

McCullers (6-4, 3.18) is 5-2 with a 2.28 ERA in nine home starts this season. He's allowed one earned run in each of his last three starts with a total of 28 Ks through 19 1/3 innings of work. This will be his first career start against Toronto.

The Jays turn to veteran R.A. Dickey (7-12, 4.66 ERA). The knuckleballer is struggling in the heat and has surrendered 17 earned runs with six homers in 14 2/3 innings through six consecutive losses. He's 2-5 with a 4.96 ERA in 13 career appearances (11 starts) versus Houston.

The Astros' bullpen has an ERA of almost a full run lower than Toronto's, and with last night's game going for 14 innings the team with the better relievers should have an advantage in this contest.
