The starting pitching matchup certainly looks to be in the Reds favor this afternoon. Trevor Bauer gets the baseball a day later than originally scheduled, thanks to Thursday’s rainout. Bauer was very impressive when he faced the Tigers last weekend. He gave up just one run on two hits and struck out 13. Unfortunately, he failed to get the win as the Reds still lost 3-2. But anything close to a similar performance today, I’m willing to bet is enough. Bauer won’t be giving up 6+ runs, that’s for sure. He’s 6-1 vs. the Tigers the L2 seasons.
The Tigers’ Michael Fulmer was a disaster in his first start, which lasted less than three innings and saw him allow three home runs. When it was all said and done, Fulmer had given up four runs and it could have been a lot more given the # of HRs. You have to remember that Detroit was outscored by 333 runs last season. I don’t believe they’ve improved that much. The Reds, meanwhile, were labeled a “dark horse” in the NL Central and are a team I still believe in. 7* Cincinnati
