I'm playing on NY. The Yankees fell to 3-5 on Saturday. Don't be fooled by the record though. They're still loaded. On days when they'll have an edge on the mound, they'll be tough to beat this season. I expect that to be the case Sunday afternoon. While the Rays will likely employ an "Opener" strategy, the Yankees will send Jordan Montgomery to the mound. That's good news for NY fans as Montgomery was extremely sharp in his first start. Though six shutout innings, he struck out seven, without walking a single batter. He allowed just four hits and the Yankees won 7-0. Keep in mind that Montgomery is now 28, often a prime age for a pitcher and that he's coming off an exceptional spring. Through three spring starts, he was 3-0 with a 0.90 ERA and 0.70 WHIP, opposing batters hitting .118. Needless to say, he carried the positive momentum into his first start of the reg. season. He'll be full of confidence again this afternoon. Montgomery's most recent start against the Rays came last October. He gave up only one run and the Yanks won 5-1. Look for them to bounce back and finish on top again here.
