A good save in the spring for WSU, after things appeared rather dicey when HC Kyle Smith moved to Stanford almost immediately after the Big Dance last March. The Cougs acted quickly, luring HC David Riley from EWU just up the road in Cheney, and Riley brought with him much of last year's 21-win Eagles team, including top scorer Cedric Coward (20.5 ppg), as WSU has started an impressive 2-0, including an eye-opener romp past MVC contender Bradley while scoring at a brisk 96 ppg clip. The nearby Vandals, making the short 8-mile trip from Moscow for this Palouse Punch-out, also think they have upgraded with a few capable transfers including Gs Jack Payne & Isaiah Brickner, keying an Idaho offense scoring at 84.5 pg in the early going.
