Tulane at Army
(NCAAF) Green Wave (TUL) vs. Black Knights (ARM),
Point Spread: -4.50 | -110.00 Green Wave (TUL) (Away)
Result: Loss
Should we be a bit concerned about Tulane's poor effort vs. Memphis, on the heels of so many good showings by the Green Wave, and playoff chances now scuttled. Players do not live a cocoon, and rumors of HC Jon Sumrall perhaps heading elsewhere, and the transfer portal possibilities for several players (including QB Darian Mensah), cannot be dismissed. But the Green Wave was so dominant for much of the season in the American, and Sumrall's spread marks so good the past three years (28-12) at Troy and Tulane, that we'd be remiss if not giving the Greenies another chance. Remember, while Navy, incorporating some Wing-T concepts, doesn't run quite the same pure option as does Army, there are real similarities, and Sumrall's defense blanked the Mids 35-0 in mid-November, holding Navy to a mere 100 YR. While West Point was a great storyline this season, just who Army beat (was the best win East Carolina, pre-Mike Houston dismissal? North Texas?) is open to some debate, and no question the option slowed as the schedule toughened down the stretch, scoring barely 19 pg across the past four after tallying nearly 44 pg in the previous five. Brave QB Bryson Daily has also carried the ball 65 times the past two weeks (vs. Notre Dame and UTSA) and could be excused for wearing down. The Navy grudge match is also still on deck next week for West Point. Play Tulane
