This is a 10* AL TOP TOTAL OF THE NIGHT on the OVER Red Sox/Rays.
The Rays won 5-1 last night, as Boston was stymied by Charlie Morton. While last night's game fell under the number, I expect this one to fly over.
Martin Perez (1-1, 5.06 ERA) has had one terrible outing and one decent one. Most recently he allowed two runs over five innings in a victory over the soft-hitting Mets.
Perez had mixed results last season, including posting a poor 2-4, 6.29 ERA record after the All Star game.
Ryan Yarbough (0-1, 1.54) was the unfortunate victim of poor run support last time out, as he allowed two runs over six innings in a setback to the Braves on Thursday.
The Rays offense finally woke up yesterday with nine hits, thanks in part to slugger Austin Meadows back in the line-up:
"We missed Austin in a lot of ways," said teammate Joey Wendle last night. "His numbers last year speak for themselves, but I don't think that does what he did last year justice. Just the presence he was in our lineup makes the hitters around him better."
And that doesn't bode well for Perez, who is a poor 1-3 with a ballooned 8.39 ERA in five games played at Tropicana Field.
Look for this total to fly well OVER the number.
