Both teams have been playing to several lower-scoring games of late, but we look for those trends to end this evening.
Detroit has seen the total go UNDER the number in five straight after yesterday's 5-3 series-opening loss here. It's also lost three straight.
Both of those facts are important to note, as Detroit has seen the total go OVER the number in seven of its last ten after playing to five or more straight UNDERS in a row, and in eight of its last 12 after three or more straight losses in a row.
Minnesota has seen the total go UNDER in two straight.
Chris Archer (2-5, 4.04 ERA) gets the nod for the home side. He's coming off a terrible outing, allowing six runs over three innings in what turned out to be a 10-4 loss to Milwaukee. He's just 2-3 with a 4.19 ERA at home.
He'll be opposed by Matt Manning (0-0, 2.25), who has been decent under a small sample size. He owns a 1.50 ERA at home though, compared to 4.50 on the road.
Archer is starting to slip and Manning's sparkling numbers are unsustainable.
The overall situation, combined with the strong O/U ATS trends I've listed above, all point to the OVER as the correct call in this one.
