This is a 10* TOTAL OF THE NIGHT on the OVER Padres/Marlins.
Both teams have been playing to several lower-scoring games of late, but we're expecting those trends to end this evening.
The Padres had seen the total go OVER the number in three straight, before seeing the last two go UNDER, including yesterday's 6-0 win at Washington. Miami has seen the total go UNDER in ten straight (with one "push" mixed in there.)
Both starters have been great. Joe Musgrove is 8-5 with a 2.91 ERA for the Padres, while Sandy Alcantara is 10-5 with a 2.01 ERA for the Marlins.
It's difficult to say too many negative things about these guys, so I won't bother. This is just a case of each being in the wrong place, at the wrong time.
Each has had success against his repective opponent in the past, but that was then and this is now.
Note that San Diego has seen the total go OVER the number in eight of its last ten after shutting out its previous opponent, with the same contest also falling UNDER the number.
And that's indeed the position that the Padres find themselves in now.
This game can still be relatively lower-scoring and still go OVER this small number, and that's exactly what we're expecting.
