This is an 8* TOTAL SPECIAL on the OVER Rays/Yankees.
Both teams have been playing to several lower-scoring games of late, but we're expecting those trends to end this evening.
Tampa's seen the total go UNDER in two straight, while New York has seen the total go UNDER in five straight (which is significant to note here, as the Yanks have seen the total go OVER the number in seven of their last ten after playing to five or more straight UNDERS in a row.) Off a 3-0 shutout loss at Boston and going just 1-2 overall against the Red Sox this weekend, there's no doubt that the Yanks are looking to shake off the cobwebs from their No. 2 ranked offense (5.14 RPG.)
Why is this total so low?
We have a couple of really good starting pitchers going head-to-head here. Despite that though, we absolutely feel this O/U line is out of whack.
Jeffrey Springs (4-3, 2.56 ERA) gets the nod for the Rays, and he'll be opposed by Nestor Cortes Jr. (9-2, 2.67) of the Yanks (Cortes took a loss when he faced the Rays last back on June 21st, allowing four runs over four innings.)
Each has been playing well, but the overall situation, combined with the above O/U stat all point to this total being a little low here.
