This is an 8* TOTAL SPECIAL on the OVER Padres/Marlins.
Both teams have been playing to several lower-scoring games of late, but we're expecting those trends to end this evening.
The Padres have seen the total go UNDER the number in four straight after dropping the first two games of this series by scores of 3-0 and 4-3. Note that San Diego has seen the total go OVER the number in seven of its last ten in trying to avenge two or more straight losses against an opponent.
The Marlins have either seen the total go UNDER the number in nine of their last 11, and in the other two the total "pushed." Miami has also seen the total go UNDER in three straight.
Mike Clevinger (4-4, 3.47 ERA) gets the nod for San Diego, while Miami counters with Pablo Lopez (7-7, 3.55.)
Clevinger has just four quality starts out of 14 for the Padres.
Lopez actually blanked the Padres at the start of the year in an 8-0 road win all the way back on May 7th.
But that was then and this is now. Lopez has a poor 6.39 ERA over his last five starts, after posting a 2.86 ERA over his first 18.
The wheels have come off the bu for Lopez now and Clevinger is getting it done with smoke and mirrors.
The overall situation, combined with the above strong trend makes the OVER the correct call in this one.
