This is an 8* SPECIAL on East Carolina.
I'm not predicting an outright win, but I do think the Pirates will put up a much bigger fight than what this spread is suggesting.
NC State won nine games last year and averages 33.1 PPG. Devin Leary returns at quarterback, and he threw for 3,400 yards, 35 touchdowns and five interceptions last season. With plenty of starters returning on both sides of the ball, many feel NC State could legitimately contend for the ACC Title this season.
ECU averaged 29.7 PPG last year. Holton Ahlers returns as quarterback after throwing for 3,100 yards, 18 touchdowns and ten interceptions. ECU returns it quarterback, and one of the top RB's in the AAC. This game will be a big measuring stick for Ahlers and the Pirates, especially with the transfers coming over on the defensive end.
Take note though, the Wolfpack are just 5-13 ATS in their last 18 on the road, while the home team is 5-1 against-the-spread the last six in this series.
East Carolina has the playmakers offensively to keep pace, and in Week 1, I expect the Pirates' defense to be "enough."
