BYU went 10-3 last year, but it lost in the Independence Bowl. I think the Cougars get caught looking past their lowly opponent today, as the USF Bulls finished only 2-10 in 2021.
BYU lost 31-28 to UAB in the Independence Bowl.
The Bulls had problems on both sides of the ball last year, but they faced some stiff competitors along the way. South Florida's two wins were 38-17 over Florida A&M and 34-14 over Temple.
The Bulls are also 4-0-1 ATS in their last five vs. Independents and 4-0 ATS their last four at home. The Cougars meanwhile are 2-6 ATS in their last eight non-conference games and 0-4 ATS in their last four on the road.
The Cougars are primed for another big season, but USF is primed for considerable growth this season as well. Look for BYU to go up early and then to take the foot off the gas in the second half, leaving the back door wide open for USF to sneak in through.
