Best Bets for Today - Top Plays Across College Football, NHL and NBA for Saturday December 6 2025

Saturday serves up a fun three-game mix: a conference title game with playoff implications in Charlotte, a battle of struggling teams trying to stop the bleeding in Brooklyn, and a marquee matinee at Madison Square Garden with one of the NHL’s juggernauts on the ice. After digging into the matchups and numbers you provided, these are the three plays I like the most for Saturday 12/6/25. Duke vs Virginia

This is a fascinating rematch, but I still land on Virginia laying the points. Duke has been one of the surprise stories in the ACC with Darian Mensah putting up 3,450 yards and a sparkling 28–4 TD–INT line, and the Blue Devils have caught fire late with wins over Wake Forest and North Carolina. However, when these two met on 11/15, Virginia controlled the game and won 34–17 on the road. The Cavaliers bring the more balanced profile overall: Chandler Morris has 2,586 passing yards, J’Mari Taylor has nearly 1,000 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns, and the Virginia defense has already shown it can handle this Duke offense. On a neutral field in Charlotte with the ACC title on the line, I trust the Cavs’ run game and defense just a bit more, especially given the recent head-to-head result. Pelicans vs Nets

This one isn’t pretty on paper, but there’s still value to be had. New Orleans comes in at 3–20 and on a five-game losing streak, allowing 123.4 points per game and struggling badly on the defensive end. The injury report tells a big part of the story: Zion Williamson, Dejounte Murray, Jordan Poole, and Herbert Jones are all out, leaving the Pelicans thin on both scoring and perimeter defense. Brooklyn hasn’t been good either at 5–17, but the Nets at least have some positive momentum with two wins in their last three and a scoring leader in Michael Porter Jr. averaging 25.3 points on efficient shooting. The Nets’ defense isn’t great, but it’s still marginally better than what New Orleans has shown, and Brooklyn is the healthier team at home. In a battle of cellar-dwellers, that’s enough for me. Avalanche vs Rangers

Colorado has looked every bit like a Stanley Cup contender again and this line reflects it. The Avalanche are 19–2–6 overall and 8–2–4 on the road, powered by an offense that averages 4.04 goals per game. Nathan MacKinnon is having an MVP-level season with 46 points (22 goals, 24 assists), and Colorado’s overall team defense has been stellar, allowing just 2.19 goals per game behind strong goaltending from Scott Wedgewood and Mackenzie Blackwood. The Rangers are solid at 15–12–2, and Igor Shesterkin is always capable of stealing a game, but New York’s offense has been more modest at 2.69 goals per game and they’ve been shaky at home with a 3–8–1 mark. With Colorado rolling, driving play in every area, and possessing the best player on the ice, I’m comfortable paying the price and backing Colorado -170 on the moneyline at MSG.
