Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs BC Lions Picks and Predictions for Friday October 23 2026
Winnipeg has one game left, and the Blue Bombers still don’t know if they’re going to the playoffs. That’s a pretty miserable spot for a team that’s been used to playing in November. Now they have to go to Vancouver and beat a BC team that already has its playoff game booked.
The Lions can afford to rest people. Winnipeg can’t. That’s the whole problem for BC coach Buck Pierce this week. Does he play Nathan Rourke and risk getting him hurt in a game that doesn’t matter, or sit him and hope the offense doesn’t get rusty before the playoffs?
The Blue Bombers visit Save-On-Foods Field at BC Place on Friday, October 23, 2026. Kickoff is at 10:00 PM ET on TSN and CFL+. Winnipeg is favored by 3.5 points, with the total at 56.5. It’s an indoor game, so nobody has to worry about rain or wind coming off the Pacific. Get in on all the action with our free CFL picks.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers Have To Win
Winnipeg is 8-9 after losing 35-27 to Edmonton last Friday. That was a game the Bombers needed, and they couldn’t get it done. Now they’re heading into the final weekend with their playoff future hanging in the balance. They can still make the Western Semi-Final, cross over into the East, or miss the playoffs altogether. That’s a lot of uncertainty for a franchise that’s been to five straight Grey Cups from 2019 through 2024. The Bombers have had a frustrating season, and now they’ve got one more chance to do something about it.

Winnipeg averages 26.1 points and 342.9 yards a game. That’s eighth in total offense, and it explains why the Bombers have been struggling. They haven’t been able to move the ball consistently, especially on second down. Winnipeg converts only 46% of those chances. That’s not good enough in the CFL, where you’ve only got three downs to work with. The defense allows 28.4 points and 380.2 yards, which isn’t terrible, but it’s not great either. Against BC, Winnipeg needs to run the ball and keep Rourke off the field. If the Lions play their regular starters, the Bombers don’t want to get into a passing contest.
Zach Collaros has had an up-and-down season, and Winnipeg needs him to play well Friday. Brady Oliveira has rushed for 1,344 yards, leading the league, but he’s dealing with an ankle injury and missed Monday’s practice. That’s a big concern. Offensive linemen Stanley Bryant and Pat Neufeld also missed practice, along with receiver Tim White. Those aren’t minor names. If Oliveira can’t play, Winnipeg loses the one guy who’s been consistently moving the ball. And if the offensive line is missing starters, Collaros could spend the night running for his life.
BC Lions Have A Playoff Game To Think About
BC is 10-7 after losing 32-13 to Calgary on Saturday. The Lions had been playing good football before that, but they didn’t look particularly sharp against the Stampeders. The loss didn’t change anything in the standings. BC is hosting the Western Semi-Final on October 31, and that’s what matters now. Pierce has to decide how much he wants to play his starters Friday. Personally, I’d be surprised if Rourke played four quarters. There’s no reason to risk your starting quarterback getting hurt in a game that doesn’t affect your playoff position.
The Lions average 29.8 points and lead the league with 424.3 yards a game. That’s a lot of offense, and Rourke is the biggest reason. BC throws for 320.2 yards and runs for another 119.2. The defense has been good against the run, allowing only 66.1 yards a game. That’s the best mark in the CFL. Winnipeg wants to run Oliveira, but BC doesn’t give up much on the ground. If the Bombers can’t run, Collaros is going to have to throw more than he’d like. That’s not where Winnipeg wants to be, especially with injuries on the offensive line.
Rourke has thrown for 4,614 yards this season. He’s been one of the best quarterbacks in the league, and BC would be foolish to risk him getting hurt before the playoffs. Kaidon Salter could see plenty of action Friday. He’s got some ability, but he’s not Rourke. That’s a big difference when you’re facing a team fighting for its season. The Lions have enough depth to make things interesting, and the backups will want to show they deserve more playing time. But I don’t think BC is going to treat this like a playoff game. Winnipeg will.
Winnipeg Blue Bombers vs BC Lions Picks and Predictions
Winnipeg Blue Bombers -3.5 (-105)
I’ll lay the 3.5 with Winnipeg. I don’t love giving points with an 8-9 team on the road, especially one that’s been struggling offensively. But the Bombers have to win, and BC doesn’t. That’s a big difference in Week 21. Winnipeg will play its starters, and I expect the Lions to be careful with Rourke and some of their other important players. Oliveira’s ankle worries me, and I’d want to know he’s playing before betting this. But Collaros has been in enough big games to understand what’s at stake. The Bombers should be the more desperate team, and I think that carries them to a win by a touchdown.
Under 56.5 Points (-110)
I’m taking under 56.5. BC has been scoring almost 30 a game, but I don’t expect the Lions to leave their starters out there all night. Winnipeg needs to control the ball and keep BC’s offense on the sideline. That means running Oliveira if he’s healthy and trying to avoid third-and-long situations. The Bombers haven’t been particularly good at moving the ball, and BC’s defense is excellent against the run. If Rourke plays the entire game, this under gets a lot more dangerous. But I think we’ll see enough backups and conservative play-calling to keep the score down. Winnipeg 29, BC 23.
Final Picks: Winnipeg Blue Bombers -3.5 (-105) and Under 56.5 Points (-110)
