Cal Poly is 4–5, most recently defeating RED 87–81. The Mustangs have been involved in several shootouts already and lean heavily on their offensive firepower.

They score 81.4 points per game but allow 85.6, so their games are often chaotic and fast-paced. Cal Poly pulls down 43 rebounds, has 13.4 assists, and adds 7.2 steals, but the defensive numbers indicate they struggle to get consistent stops.

Cal State Fullerton is 3–5, but they’re also coming off an 83–69 win over Pepperdine and have shown they can score at a very high level.

The Titans put up 88.1 points per game while giving up 87.6, making them one of the higher-scoring and looser-defending teams in the Big West early on. They collect 45 rebounds, dish 16.9 assists, and record 6.8 steals per game. The offensive balance is solid; the defense, less so.

Ward leads Fullerton with 16.0 points per game, shooting 46.3% from the field and 80.6% at the line. The Titans also have multiple secondary scorers who can contribute in transition and spot-up situations.

In a matchup like this, I’m leaning toward Cal State Fullerton at home. Both teams are willing to run, both can score, and neither is particularly reliable on the defensive end. That tends to favor the team with more playmaking depth and the home-court edge — and that’s Fullerton.

Cal Poly can absolutely trade blows, but their defensive issues on the road are hard to ignore. I expect Fullerton’s guards to drive the tempo, create clean looks early in the shot clock, and ultimately outpace the Mustangs in a high-scoring environment.
