Cal State Northridge Preview

Cal State Northridge enters on a five-game winning streak, including an 85-83 overtime win at UCSB. The Matadors are averaging 82.1 points per game while shooting 46% from the field, and ball movement has been strong in conference play. CSU Northridge leads the Big West with 17.4 assists per game, powered by Josiah Davis at 7.2 assists per contest. Larry Hughes II adds 18.8 points per game on 44.5% shooting, giving the Matadors a reliable scoring option late in games.

Rebounding has also been a steady edge for CSU Northridge. The Matadors average 41.9 boards per game compared to 32.6 for Long Beach State, a significant gap that often translates into second-chance points. Over the last five games, CSU Northridge is scoring 84.0 points per game while shooting 46.9% from the floor. That offensive production has helped offset allowing 79.1 points per game this season.

Long Beach State Preview

Long Beach State has dropped five straight, including a 69-58 home loss to UC Irvine. The Beach average 73.6 points per game and shoot 45% from the field, but offensive consistency has been an issue. Gavin Sykes leads the way at 17.8 points per game, and Petar Majstorovic has averaged 15.8 points and 6.2 rebounds over the last 10 games. However, Long Beach State is being outscored by 3.1 points per game and has struggled to match high-powered offenses.

The Beach do have one key advantage in this matchup. Long Beach State beat CSU Northridge 87-80 on January 18 behind Sykes’ 34-point performance. Even so, recent form favors the Matadors, who are 7-3 over the last 10 games and averaging 18.6 assists in that stretch compared to 12.5 for Long Beach State.

Cal State Northridge vs Long Beach State Prediction and Best Picks

CSU Northridge is the hotter team and has the stronger statistical profile in scoring and rebounding. The Matadors’ assist rate and ability to control the glass should travel well. Expect a competitive first half, but CSU Northridge’s depth and overall efficiency separate late.

Pick: Cal State Northridge -4

Lean: Over 154.5

Final Score Prediction: CSU Northridge 84, Long Beach State 76
