Canisius Preview

Canisius is 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC, coming off a 69–57 loss to Saint Peter’s. The Golden Griffins have been inconsistent on both sides of the ball, and their offense has struggled to score efficiently against stronger defenses.

On the season, Canisius averages 62.3 points per game while allowing 70.1 points. They shoot 43% from the field and bring down 31.4 rebounds per contest. The offense produces 11.5 assists, along with 2.0 blocks and 3.9 steals per outing. Turnovers and lack of size have been recurring issues, especially in road environments.

Leading scorer B. Ndjonga (12.5 PPG, 47.4% FG) has been reliable, but the supporting cast hasn’t provided enough consistent scoring to keep pace with upper-tier MAAC teams.

Siena comes in at 8-2 overall and 1-0 in MAAC play, carrying strong momentum after an 83–54 win over Niagara. The Saints have developed into one of the conference’s most balanced units, posting efficiency on offense and disciplined, physical defense.

Siena scores 68.7 points per game while allowing just 62.3, ranking near the top of the conference in scoring defense. They grab 33.1 rebounds, dish out 12.2 assists, and generate 8.4 steals per game, showing active hands in the passing lanes and strong perimeter pressure.

Their leading scorer G. Doty (15.0 PPG, 83% FT) anchors an offense that doesn’t play fast but executes extremely well in the half-court. Siena’s recent run of six straight wins reflects steady improvement and growing cohesion, especially at home where they’ve defended efficiently and controlled tempo.

I’m backing Siena in this matchup. Canisius has had trouble generating consistent offense, and facing one of the MAAC’s best defensive teams on the road is a tough assignment. Siena’s ability to dictate tempo, force low-percentage shots, and convert defensively-generated offense should tilt this game in their favor.

Canisius can keep games close when their defense holds up, but their scoring limitations and rebounding deficits make it difficult to match Siena for a full 40 minutes.
