Columbia vs New Haven Information

The Columbia Lions open their season Friday afternoon against the New Haven Chargers in Connecticut. Columbia had a mediocre campaign a year ago, finishing with 12 wins and 15 losses after losing 14 of its final 15 games. The New Haven Chargers will play their first home game of the year Friday night, winless thus far this season, after a 24-point road loss to Connecticut in game one. Senior Kenny Noland is the top returning scorer back for Columbia this season after averaging 12.7 points and a team high 3.3 assists through 27 games played a year ago. Senior Avery Brown is also back this season for Columbia after averaging 11.1 points per game last season. Blair Thompson also returns for the Lions this season after averaging 8.7 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game last year.

New Haven Preview

The New Haven offense was lackluster in game one of the season, scoring just 55 points on 44.2% shooting from the floor and an abysmal 21.4% from beyond the arc. Defensively, New Haven was outmatched, giving up 79 points, including 42 in the second half, as UConn shot 48.2% from the floor. The Chargers lost the rebounding, got by double digits, and turned the ball over seven times in the loss.

Despite this being their first game of the season, Columbia is the better team in this matchup, and it will show from early on Friday night.
