Long Island Preview

The Sharks return a veteran group and are positioned to contend for the NEC title behind a trio of all-conference players. Redshirt senior guard Malachi Davis leads the offense after averaging 17.7 points per game, supported by graduate wing Jamal Fuller and sophomore forward Shadrak Lasu, one of the league’s best rebounders. Senior transfer Greg Gordon brings proven scoring, while sophomore guard Eddie Munyak is expected to take on a larger backcourt role.

Rod Strickland’s team thrives on pressure defense and inside toughness, using its experience to dictate tempo. Continuity gives Long Island an advantage early in the season, but a road matchup against an ACC opponent is a major test. To stay competitive, the Sharks will need strong shooting and disciplined half-court execution to offset Notre Dame’s size advantage and deeper roster.

Notre Dame Preview

Micah Shrewsberry’s Irish enter with optimism and one of the ACC’s top backcourts. Junior Markus Burton returns after averaging 21.3 points per game, while Braeden Shrewsberry adds consistent perimeter scoring. Center Kebba Njie anchors the interior, and forwards Sir Mohammed and Cole Certa provide talent off the bench.

Notre Dame’s offseason focus was on a faster pace and improved play around the basket. With new additions Carson Towt from Northern Arizona and Matthew MacLellan in the frontcourt, the Irish expect better rebounding and scoring inside. Notre Dame has the advantage in size, shooting, and late-game experience. Expect the Irish to push the tempo and test Long Island’s defense early.

Long Island at Notre Dame Prediction

Notre Dame’s guard play and inside scoring give it a decisive advantage in this opener. Long Island’s veteran lineup can keep the first half close, but the Irish’s deeper bench and talented shooters will widen the gap after halftime. Notre Dame’s offensive balance should carry it comfortably to its first win of the season. Final Score Prediction: Notre Dame Fighting Irish win and cover ATS, 87–62.
