The new season tips off in Atlanta as the Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks travel to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at McCamish Pavilion. The non-conference clash starts at 7:30 PM ET and will air on ACC Extra. Georgia Tech enters the 2025–26 campaign looking to build on last year’s .500 finish and an NIT appearance, while Maryland Eastern Shore opens its second season under Cleo Hill Jr. after a middle-of-the-pack MEAC showing. Big board, bigger value — see our winning college basketball predictions.
Maryland Eastern Shore Preview
Maryland Eastern Shore brings back several key contributors, including Dionte Flippin and Devon Teal, who earned preseason All-MEAC honors. The Hawks finished last season with success, showing toughness on the glass and solid perimeter scoring against mid-major opponents. Experience across the backcourt gives them some stability entering one of the nation’s toughest early schedules, which includes road trips to Georgia and Nebraska after this opener. Flippin’s scoring and Javoy Thompson’s two-way ability will be essential as the Hawks look to hang around against ACC length and athleticism.
Georgia Tech Preview
Georgia Tech begins its second year under Damon Stoudemire, coming off a 17–17 campaign that showed signs of progress. The Jackets return Baye Ndongo, a double-double threat who averaged 13.4 points and 8.9 rebounds, and add transfer guards Chas Kelley III and Lamar Washington to bolster an offense that averaged 73.1 points per game last season. With heavy roster turnover, Stoudemire’s group will again rely on athleticism and transition play. Jaeden Mustaf and Kowacie Reeves add scoring on the wings, and freshman big Muhammad Cila offers immediate interior size. If Georgia Tech can clean up turnovers and improve free-throw efficiency, its frontcourt talent should give it full control against an undersized opponent.
Georgia Tech vs Maryland Eastern Shore Prediction
Georgia Tech’s balanced attack and home-court advantage make them heavy favorites for a reason. The Hawks may keep things competitive early through rebounding effort and perimeter shooting, but the Yellow Jackets’ deeper bench and superior athleticism should take over by the second half. Expect Stoudemire’s squad to push tempo, dominate the paint, and close out comfortably in front of the home crowd. Georgia Tech’s rebounding edge and transition play should push the pace higher than expected, while the Jackets’ size makes the spread worth backing in the season opener.
