Xavier returns home to the Cintas Center looking to extend its winning streak as they host Missouri State in a non-conference matchup on truTV. The Musketeers are heavily favored and playing some of their best basketball of the season, while the Bears arrive searching for consistency on both ends. As always, you can find deeper breakdowns and additional betting insights on our free college basketball picks page.

Missouri State Bears Preview

Missouri State enters this matchup at 4–4 and 0–2 on the road, carrying an offense that has shown promise but a defense that continues to struggle against higher-caliber competition. The Bears average 78.6 points per game and shoot the ball efficiently in spurts, especially when K. Palek III gets rolling. He leads the team with 16.8 PPG and is often the focal point of their half-court sets, attacking off the dribble and creating mismatches against slower defenders.

However, the Bears’ defensive concerns are significant. They allow 73.9 points per game and have been particularly vulnerable against quicker guards and strong interior finishers. Their recent 98–74 loss to Tulsa highlighted issues in defensive rotations, transition coverage, and late-shot-clock execution.

Missouri State rebounds the ball well enough to stay competitive (46 per game), but turnovers and defensive lapses often erase those advantages. To challenge Xavier, they’ll need an above-average shooting night and a major improvement in defensive discipline — something that has eluded them consistently this season.

Xavier Musketeers Preview

Xavier comes in at 7–3 overall and 6–1 at home, riding a four-game win streak that includes strong victories over Cincinnati, St. Francis PA, and West Virginia. The Musketeers have found their offensive rhythm, scoring 78.7 points per game while spreading the ball beautifully with 18.5 assists per contest — one of the best marks in the Big East.

T. Carroll leads the team with 17.3 PPG on an efficient 48.6% from the field. His ability to score from all three levels forces defenses into difficult help situations, opening up perimeter shooters and interior cutters. Xavier’s ball movement is elite, and their unselfish style creates high-percentage possessions at a high rate.

Defensively, Xavier allows 72.9 points per game but thrives in key moments thanks to their physicality, smart switching, and a bench capable of sustaining energy. Their home-court advantage is also significant — the Cintas Center is one of the toughest environments in the country, and Xavier often jumps out to early leads behind its aggressive pace and crowd-boosted momentum.

The Musketeers also rebound well (42 per game) and convert turnovers into fast-break points, which poses a real danger to a Missouri State team that has struggled against high-pressure defenses.

Matchup Breakdown

This matchup tilts heavily toward Xavier in the following areas:

  • Offensive efficiency: Xavier moves the ball with precision and generates cleaner looks than Missouri State.

  • Defensive consistency: The Musketeers make fewer mistakes and close out possessions more effectively.

  • Home-court advantage: Xavier is 6–1 at home and playing their best basketball in Cincinnati.

  • Turnover differential: Xavier’s pressure and Missouri State’s inconsistency create a mismatch in ball security.

Missouri State has talent, but they’ve yet to prove they can defend well enough to keep pace with a team as polished and efficient as Xavier.

Pick & Prediction

I’m taking Xavier in this spot. The Musketeers are in rhythm, playing excellent team basketball, and have shown they can control games on both ends. Missouri State can score, but their defensive issues make it hard to trust them on the road — especially in a building as tough as the Cintas Center.

Xavier’s ball movement, depth, and ability to hit timely shots should give them a comfortable edge throughout. I expect the Musketeers to push the pace, take advantage of Missouri State’s defensive gaps, and pull away in the second half.
