Navy Preview
Navy enters 2025-26 as the preseason favorite in the Patriot League after finishing 15-19 overall and 10-8 in conference play last year. The Midshipmen return a strong senior core led by guard Austin Benigni, who averaged 18.8 points, 4.3 assists, and 3.3 rebounds per game. His scoring and leadership will be crucial for a team that often struggled to maintain offensive rhythm last season. Jordan Pennick adds another backcourt weapon after posting 10.7 points per game, and the combination of Aidan Kehoe and Donovan Draper provides muscle inside. Kehoe averaged 9.0 points and 8.9 rebounds per game, while Draper nearly matched that output with 8.4 points and 8.2 boards. Those numbers give Navy an inside-out balance that should help keep the Navy in most games.
The Midshipmen’s stats showed promise but inconsistent shooting. They scored 70.8 points per game while allowing 70.4. Navy’s 42.3 percent shooting from the field ranked near the bottom of Division I, yet a low turnover rate—just 10.8 per game—kept them competitive. Free-throw accuracy at 73.2 percent and a plus-2.1 rebounding margin give Navy a foundation for improvement. If they can raise their three-point shooting percentage from 33.8 and turn the ball over less in half-court sets, they’ll be tough even away from home.
Presbyterian Preview
Presbyterian finished 14-19 last season, including a 7-9 Big South record. The Blue Hose played solid offense, averaging around 74 points per game while allowing just under 71. That scoring balance reflected the willingness to push tempo, but defensive mistakes late in games cost them several close losses. Head coach Quinton Ferrell enters his seventh season, and his program has shown gradual progress despite limitations in depth. Stability in the coaching staff and returning players gives Presbyterian a realistic chance to climb the conference standings if it can handle a tougher non-conference schedule.

Presbyterian vs Navy Prediction
This opener will test how quickly the Blue Hose can integrate new players against a disciplined Navy team that thrives on structure and ball movement. The Midshipmen’s veteran experience, effective guard play, and rebounding should bode well, even in a true road environment. Presbyterian’s home crowd may help keep it close for a while, but Navy’s overall talent and defense will separate the Midshipmen down the stretch.
Prediction: Navy 74, Presbyterian 68
