Niagara Preview

Niagara comes in struggling, riding a five-game losing streak and looking for answers offensively. The Purple Eagles average 63.4 points per game while allowing 75.8, creating a scoring deficit that has plagued them in almost every matchup so far.

They shoot 42% from the field and grab 28.6 rebounds, which is one of the lowest averages in the MAAC. The team posts 12.6 assists, 3.1 blocks, and 5.4 steals, but turnovers and defensive lapses have repeatedly put them behind early in games.

Leading scorer J. Page (12.3 PPG) has been one of the few bright spots, but Niagara lacks the depth and physicality to control tempo. Road matchups — especially in tight MAAC gyms — have resulted in early deficits that they haven’t been able to dig out of.

Saint Peter’s enters with renewed momentum after a 69–57 win over Canisius. While their record sits at 3–4, their defensive identity and ability to disrupt passing lanes make them dangerous, especially at home.

The Peacocks score 67.2 points per game while giving up 75.6, though that number is skewed by a few tough non-conference opponents. They average 31.8 rebounds, 11.5 assists, 3.2 blocks, and an impressive 10.7 steals per game, showing just how active and aggressive their perimeter defense can be.

Star guard B. Bland leads the team with 17.3 points per game, shooting 42.3% from the field while serving as the primary scoring engine. When Saint Peter’s forces turnovers and gets into transition, they become a completely different team — one capable of taking over long stretches of play.

I’m backing Saint Peter’s in this matchup. Niagara has simply been overwhelmed during this losing streak, and their lack of rebounding and offensive punch makes it incredibly difficult to win on the road. Saint Peter’s thrives on creating chaos defensively, and against a Niagara team that already struggles with turnovers, that’s a recipe for sustained runs.

Niagara can keep things close for a half if they slow the pace, but Saint Peter’s energy at home, pressure defense, and advantage in guard play should eventually break this one open.
