The neutral-site spotlight shines on Phoenix as Oklahoma (6–2) meets Arizona State (6–2) at the Mortgage Matchup Center. Tip-off is set for 10:00 PM ET on CBSSN. Both teams come in with strong early-season resumes, but Oklahoma’s four-game winning streak and explosive offense make this one of the more intriguing late-night matchups on the board. Oklahoma Sooners Preview
Oklahoma is rolling right now, winners of four straight, including decisive victories over Wake Forest, Marquette, Alcorn State, and Oral Roberts. Their only setbacks came in high-scoring battles, but offensively the Sooners have been one of the most consistent units in the country.
The Sooners average 86.5 points per game, and guard N. Pack (18.5 PPG) has been terrific at all three levels. OU shoots efficiently, attacks the rim with purpose, and moves the ball well, posting 15.9 assists per game.
Defensively, Oklahoma is still a work in progress. They allow 73.6 PPG, and while their athleticism helps them recover in open space, the Sooners can get caught gambling, especially against spacing-heavy offenses. Still, their rebounding advantage (47 per game) and ability to score in bunches often overcome those lapses.

If OU keeps tempo high, they control this matchup.
Arizona State Sun Devils Preview
Arizona State also enters 6–2, but their record is a bit more uneven. They’ve beaten quality opponents — Texas, Washington State, and Georgia State — yet have looked vulnerable in losses, including an 88–75 defeat against USC where defensive breakdowns were costly.
ASU averages 80.9 points per game, led by M. Odum (19.1 PPG), who provides instant offense but sometimes forces the action. The Sun Devils are streaky shooters, which makes them dangerous but volatile.
The bigger concern for ASU is rebounding and halfcourt consistency. They pull down only 31.6 boards per game, one of the lowest totals among major-conference teams. Against Oklahoma’s strong rebounding unit, that’s a matchup disadvantage that may snowball.
Defensively, ASU gives up 76.6 PPG, and despite their athleticism, they often allow teams to get comfortable early.
If Arizona State can’t slow the pace, this game becomes an uphill battle.
Oklahoma vs Arizona State Pick
I’m backing Oklahoma in this matchup. The Sooners simply bring more balance, more scoring depth, and a significantly stronger interior presence. Their offensive spacing and ball movement make them extremely difficult to guard for long stretches, especially for an ASU defense that tends to drift and give up high-percentage looks.
Arizona State can absolutely get hot, but they rely too much on difficult shot-making, and they don’t rebound well enough to steal the extra possessions needed to upset a team like Oklahoma. Once OU gets downhill and controls tempo, the Sun Devils are playing from behind.
I expect Oklahoma to dictate the pace from start to finish and wear ASU down with their physicality and offensive execution.
