Sacred Heart Pioneers Preview
Sacred Heart scored 103 points in its opener, shooting 55% from the field and controlling play on both ends. Anquan Hill led the Pioneers with 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Dashon Gittens added 18 points with five steals. Nyle Ralph-Beyer scored 12, and freshman guard Mekhi Conner finished with nine assists.
The Pioneers totaled 49 rebounds and 25 assists while committing only 11 turnovers. They made 15 three-pointers and forced 15 steals in a strong defensive showing. Sacred Heart moves quickly in transition and spreads the floor, but facing a bigger, more physical Duquesne frontcourt will be a challenge around the basket.
Duquesne Dukes Preview
Duquesne scored 83 points and shot 56% from the floor in its win over Niagara. Tarence Guinyard led the Dukes with 19 points and five assists while hitting four threes. Jimmie Williams scored 15 points with three steals, and forward John Hugley added seven points and eight rebounds.
The Dukes recorded 18 assists and eight steals but turned the ball over 17 times. They made 11 three-pointers and finished most of their chances in the lane. Duquesne has a balanced group that can score inside and out, and its size gives it an edge on the boards. Guinyard’s scoring and Hugley’s presence inside should help set the tone early.
