South Dakota Coyotes Preview

South Dakota dropped its opener 81–79 to Utah Tech despite four players scoring in double figures. Isaac Bruns led the way with 23 points, while Uzziah Buntyn added 10 off the bench. The Coyotes shot 37.9% from the field and 77.1% from the line, but made only 2 of 17 attempts from three. They outrebounded Utah Tech 45–42 and went 27-for-35 at the stripe, showing strong work inside but limited perimeter success.

Cameron Fens and Jesse McIntosh helped keep the Coyotes close with strong rebounding, while forward Jake Brack grabbed eight boards in 26 minutes. South Dakota finished with 14 turnovers and seven assists, so ball security remains a key point heading into Omaha. After allowing 81 points in the loss, the Coyotes will need better defense and better spacing on offense against a veteran Big East defense.

Creighton Bluejays Preview

Creighton enters its opener ranked No. 23 nationally and coming off a 25-win season under head coach Greg McDermott. The Bluejays lost key starters Ryan Kalkbrenner and Steven Ashworth but return several contributors, including Jackson McAndrew, Jasen Green, and Isaac Traudt. Creighton adds impact transfers Josh Dix and Owen Freeman from Iowa and Austin Swartz from Miami, giving the lineup size and scoring.

Last season, Creighton ranked among the Big East’s best in field-goal percentage (47.7%) and assists (17.1 per game) while allowing just 70 points per game. McDermott’s teams are known for spacing, unselfish passing, and high-percentage shooting. The combination of returning experience and immediate-impact transfers should allow Creighton to maintain its fast-paced offense and control the boards against a rebuilding South Dakota squad.

South Dakota at Creighton Prediction

Creighton’s shooting and inside play will be too much for South Dakota to handle for 40 minutes. The Coyotes showed solid effort in their season opener but face a major step up in speed and scoring power when facing Creighton on Wednesday. Final Score Prediction: Creighton Bluejays win and cover ATS 91-58.
