Tarleton State Texans Preview

Tarleton State was 12-20 last season with a 6-7 conference record. The Texans averaged 63.3 points per game and allowed 69.6 points. Tarleton State brings back Head Coach Billy Gillispie. The Texans averaged just 4.1 made three pointers per game last season. Tarleton State did rank 11th best in the country with an average of 9.4 steals per game. The Tarleton State Texans were a miserable 1-14 on the road a year ago. The Texans bring back seven players from a year ago along with twelve newbies.

SMU Mustangs Preview

The SMU Mustangs went 24-11 last year with a 13-7 conference record. SMU averaged 79.7 points per game while allowing 71.3 points. SMU beat Tarleton State last season in their opener by 34 points. The Mustangs are hoping to start off as they did last season with a three game win streak. SMU was knocked out of the NIT last year in the second round. The Mustangs beat Northern Iowa then lost to Oklahoma State.

Tarleton State vs SMU Picks & Predictions

The SMU Mustangs are the better team on paper but it is the first game of the season. Tarleton State lost six of their first seven games last season. Watch for SMU to be the bigger and faster team with the better guard play. The Mustangs win easily at home to start their season.
