UNC Wilmington’s opener was all about offense, scoring 106 points on 52.1% shooting while grabbing 53 rebounds. Guard Nolan Hodge led with 21 points on 57.1% shooting and added five rebounds. Madison Durr scored 18 points with five rebounds and four assists, and forward Patrick Wessler posted 17 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocks while hitting 87.5% from the field.
The Seahawks’ court spacing and interior play created plenty of scoring chances, with five players in double figures. The 17 assists showed disciplined ball movement, and the size advantage was evident on the glass. The only blemish was 14 turnovers, which gave Missouri extra possessions. Wessler’s interior touch and Durr’s ability to attack from the wing give Wilmington a balanced inside-out look that is hard to defend.
Kent State Golden Flashes Preview
Kent State has opened the season with a strong offense, averaging 103.5 points while shooting 45.1% from the floor. Guard Morgan Safford has been outstanding, averaging 27.5 points and 4.5 rebounds on 53.1% shooting, including 56% from three. Forward Delrecco Gillespie has added 18.5 points, 13 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game, giving Kent State a true interior threat. Rob Whaley Jr. contributes 15.5 points and 5.0 rebounds, and Omer Hamama leads the team with seven assists per game.
Kent State’s strength lies in its pace and scoring, but its defense has struggled, allowing 102.5 points per game. The Flashes have controlled tempo through Safford’s shot-making and Gillespie’s rebounding, yet perimeter defense is an issue. If they can hold Wilmington under 50% shooting and clear the glass on defense, they will be tough to beat at home.

Both teams can score, but Wilmington’s size and control inside give it the edge.
