LaVell Edwards Stadium will be rocking on Saturday afternoon, when the Arizona Wildcats square off against the BYU Cougars. In their season opener, Arizona held FCS Northern Arizona scoreless for the first three quarters to earn a 35-7 home victory.

Senior QB Noah Fifita wasted no time picking up where he left off last season with 262 passing yards and two touchdowns. Arizona sophomore WR Giovanni Richardson flashed with eight receptions for a game-high 96 yards. Tre Spivey and Brandon Phelps caught touchdown passes for the Wildcats, who outgained the Lumberjacks by a 520-193 margin.

BYU Preview

The BYU Cougars come into the 2026 college football season with a chip on their shoulder. The 14th ranked Cougars (1-0) won 12 games last year, but two losses to Texas Tech left them feeling snubbed from the College Football Playoff. The Cougars are loaded on the defensive side of the ball and allowed 19.1 points per game in 2025. On Saturday, BYU scored 42 points in the first half and coasted to a 63-7 home victory versus FCS Utah Tech.

Bear Bachmeier’s sophomore campaign got off to an impressive start with 198 passing yards and three touchdowns. Bachmeier added 30 rushing yards and a score. Senior RB L.J. Martin will be the workhorse for the Cougars as the season progresses, but carried just seven times for 54 yards. Freshman WR Legend Glasker caught three passes for 65 yards and a pair of scores.
