Bethune-Cookman showed very little offensive firepower in the opener. Quarterback Timmy McClain completed 18 of 28 passes for 164 yards but failed to find the end zone. Running back Marqui Johnson managed 76 yards on 9 carries and was the lone bright spot for a unit that didn’t reach double digits until late in garbage time. Beck threw for 205 yards and 2 touchdowns on 20-of-31 passing. Mark Fletcher Jr. added 66 yards on 15 carries, while Malachi Toney hauled in 6 catches for 82 yards and a score. The offense racked up 385 total yards and controlled the tempo in the second half. The offensive line held strong against a tough Irish front, and the skill position talent was clearly a step quicker.
