Bowling Green vs Western Michigan Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026
Western Michigan just gave up 45 points at Toledo. Bowling Green just lost at Buffalo. Neither team is going into Halloween feeling particularly wonderful, but there’s a big difference between them. The Broncos have five wins, can run the football, and have been much better at protecting it. Bowling Green has two wins and an offense that has spent too much of the season trying to get out of its own way. The Falcons can make things interesting, but I wouldn’t want to bet on them trading touchdowns all afternoon. Be ready for all the college football action with our free college football picks.
Bowling Green visits Stafford-Smith Field at Waldo Stadium in Kalamazoo, Michigan, on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET on CBS Sports Network. At the time of this writing, I couldn’t verify an available sportsbook spread or total. My target prices are Western Michigan -13.5 or better and Under 48.5 or higher. The early forecast suggests temperatures in the low 60s, winds around 10 mph, and a low precipitation chance. Check gusts and any rain changes before kickoff.
Bowling Green Has Been Giving Away Too Many Opportunities
Bowling Green is 2-6 overall and 2-2 in MAC play after losing 31-24 at Buffalo. The Falcons also lost 32-31 in overtime to Ball State the previous week, so they’ve been competitive lately without getting the results they wanted. Earlier in the season, though, they were overwhelmed by Nebraska and Iowa State, losing those games by a combined 97 points. Bowling Green has enough offense to hang around against MAC opponents, but it hasn’t been consistent enough to trust on the road.
The Falcons have struggled to run the football. Their ground attack has produced roughly 3.2 yards per carry in the available team statistics, and that’s a serious problem against a Western Michigan defense that has generally been more effective than Bowling Green’s. When the Falcons can’t run, the passing game has to do too much work. That creates longer third downs, and Western Michigan has been better at keeping opposing offenses from controlling games on the ground. Bowling Green needs balance, not another afternoon of obvious passing situations.

Defensively, the Falcons have given up too many big plays and haven’t created enough turnovers to compensate. They can pressure opposing quarterbacks, but the bigger challenge Saturday is Western Michigan’s rushing attack. The Broncos are averaging more than four yards per carry and have been much more effective finishing drives on the ground. Bowling Green needs to tackle well at the line of scrimmage and avoid letting the Broncos stay ahead of the chains. Otherwise, Western Michigan could control possession for long stretches.
Western Michigan Should Be Able to Control the Ground Game
Western Michigan is 5-3 overall after losing 45-38 at Toledo. Before that, the Broncos had won three straight against Buffalo, Kent State, and Central Michigan. The Toledo loss was frustrating because Western Michigan scored enough to win most games. The defense simply couldn’t finish the job. But the Broncos have been more dependable than Bowling Green over the full season, and getting back home should help.
The Broncos have produced 1,153 rushing yards in the available team totals, compared with 742 for Bowling Green. That’s a substantial advantage. Western Michigan has also scored 13 rushing touchdowns and thrown only one interception. That combination matters. The Broncos can sustain drives without putting the football in danger, and Bowling Green hasn’t been particularly good at stopping opponents consistently. If Western Michigan runs effectively on first and second down, the Falcons could spend most of the afternoon defending manageable third downs.
I wouldn’t ignore the Toledo game completely. Allowing 45 points is a warning sign, and Bowling Green has scored 31 and 24 in its last two losses. The Falcons could move the ball if Western Michigan’s defense hasn’t corrected its mistakes. But the Broncos have a better overall offensive foundation and a meaningful home-field advantage. They don’t need to win a track meet. They need to run the ball, protect possession, and force Bowling Green to sustain drives without making mistakes.
Bowling Green vs Western Michigan Picks and Predictions
Western Michigan -13.5 or Better
I’ll take Western Michigan if the Broncos are laying 13.5 or fewer. Bowling Green has played better offensively in recent weeks, and that makes a big spread somewhat uncomfortable. But the Broncos have a clear rushing advantage, have been much better protecting the football, and should be able to control possession at home. Bowling Green’s biggest chance is forcing turnovers and turning this into a messy MAC game. That certainly happens. I just don’t see enough consistency from the Falcons to trust them for four quarters. Western Michigan by two touchdowns is a reasonable expectation.
Under 48.5 or Higher
I’m taking the under if the total is 48.5 or higher. Western Michigan has enough rushing ability to shorten the game, and Bowling Green’s offense hasn’t been especially efficient over the full season. The Toledo game is the obvious counterargument, because the Broncos just played a contest with 83 combined points. But that doesn’t mean every opponent will be able to reproduce Toledo’s offensive success. I expect Western Michigan to spend more time on the ground and make Bowling Green earn its points. Something around 31-14 is the kind of game I’m expecting.
Final Picks: Western Michigan -13.5 or better and Under 48.5 or higher
