Kidd Brewer Stadium will be the scene for a Saturday evening college football clash between the Charlotte 49ers and the App State Mountaineers. The 49ers (0-2) failed to win a game versus FBS teams a season ago and started the 2026 campaign with a disappointing 43-41 three-overtime loss versus FCS Citadel. On Saturday, Charlotte trailed by 27 points at halftime during a 41-9 road loss against ninth-ranked Ole Miss.

Charlotte put together three drives of 59 plus yards each in the second half that resulted in three short Ian Kelly field goals. Senior RB Chase Williams led the Charlotte rushing attack with 74 yards on nine carries. Junior DB Collin Gil added five solo tackles and a sack for the 49ers.

App State Preview

The App State Mountaineers had a stretch of ten consecutive non-losing seasons, but have dropped 14 games total the last two years. The Mountaineers (2-0) are looking to rebound from a disappointing eight loss campaign and must improve a defensive unit that gave up close to 30 points per game. Last week, App State built a seven-point halftime lead and forced a pair of turnovers to earn a 27-24 road victory against East Carolina.

Senior QB Malachi Singleton completed 20 of 28 passes for 267 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground. App State RB Jaquari Lewis carried 17 times for 73 yards and a score. Sam Pickett III contributed a team-high 86 receiving yards for the Mountaineers, who possessed the ball for 36 plus minutes.
