Campbell Preview
Campbell showed some flashes in the passing game last week, with quarterback Kamden Sixkiller throwing for 144 yards and a touchdown on 17-of-33 passing. Spencer Jones led the receivers with 55 yards on four catches, but the offense sputtered with just 43 rushing yards from JJ Cowan. The Camels have now lost six straight, dating back to last season, and continue to search for rhythm under center.
Defensively, linebacker Logan Livermon led Campbell with nine tackles, and DaVonyae Pettis added a sack, but the unit allowed 31 points to a Rhode Island offense that doesn’t usually overpower opponents. The Camels were overmatched against the run and couldn't generate enough third-down stops. That trend has carried over from last season, when Campbell consistently gave up over 30 points per game.
East Carolina Preview
East Carolina was more competitive in Week 1, going toe-to-toe with NC State before falling 24-17 on the road. Quarterback Katin Houser was efficient, throwing for 366 yards on 30-of-44 passing with a touchdown. Tight end Jayvontay Conner had a strong outing with 98 receiving yards and a score, and London Montgomery chipped in 32 yards on the ground. The Pirates moved the ball well but couldn’t punch in enough points.
On defense, ECU held a solid Wolfpack offense under 400 total yards and created pressure up front. Xavier McIver registered a sack, and linebacker Dameon Wilson led with eight tackles. The Pirates allowed just 3.6 yards per carry and forced two punts late in the second half. This is a physical, experienced group that should control the trenches against a weaker Campbell front.
East Carolina vs Campbell Pick
The Pirates are the better team on both sides of the ball and have a significant edge in the trenches. With Houser distributing effectively and the defense limiting big plays, ECU should pull away in the second half. Campbell hasn’t shown enough balance to hang with an FBS opponent in this spot. Final Score Prediction: East Carolina 38, Campbell 13.
