Florida and Kentucky meet in Lexington on Saturday night with both programs searching for stability in the SEC. The Gators enter 3–5 overall and 2–3 in conference play, coming off a 24–20 loss to Georgia. Kentucky sits at the same overall record, but a 1–5 SEC mark highlights how costly close losses have been. Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. ET at Kroger Field, airing on SEC Network, and Florida is favored by ESPN’s matchup predictor at 61.3%. Every matchup matters—see who’s favored in our expert college football picks.
Florida Preview
Florida’s offense has shown signs of better balance behind freshman quarterback DJ Lagway, who’s thrown for 1,513 yards with nine touchdowns. Turnovers have been an issue, as his nine interceptions have ended drives, but he’s complemented by a strong running presence in Jadan Baugh. Baugh’s 611 yards and four rushing scores give the Gators a steady ground option. In the passing game, Vernell Brown III has emerged as the top target with 451 yards on 32 receptions, though he’s currently questionable with a shoulder injury.
Recent weeks have been a mixed bag for Florida. Wins over Mississippi State and Texas showed potential, while losses to Texas A&M and Miami revealed an inconsistency in offensive execution. The Gators’ challenge has been sustaining offensive drives on the road, scoring just 17 points at Texas A&M and 7 at Miami. On defense, Florida has competed well in most games, allowing just 24 points against Georgia, but injuries are mounting. Key contributors like linebacker Myles Graham and edge rusher Kamran James will have to carry a heavier load if several questionable defenders can’t go.
Kentucky Preview
Kentucky’s 10–3 win at Auburn last week snapped a tough losing skid and gave the Wildcats momentum heading back home. Quarterback Cutter Boley has totaled 1,215 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions, and the offense has leaned on running back Seth McGowan to control tempo. McGowan’s 476 yards and seven touchdowns have been essential to keeping drives alive, especially with multiple receivers on the injury list, including Jamari Maclin and Dane Key.

Kentucky has played much better at home than on the road, but finishing drives remains a major issue. The Wildcats have been competitive early in games, yet fade as turnovers and stalled red-zone trips pile up. Linebacker Alex Afari Jr. leads the team with 43 tackles, and his ability to contain Baugh on early downs will be critical. Kentucky’s defense performed well against Texas and Auburn, but still gives up too many big plays through the air when the secondary is stretched.
Florida’s success on offense is higher when Lagway avoids mistakes, and the front seven can create problems for Kentucky’s young offensive line. The Gators’ advantage in quarterback experience and overall speed should prove decisive in a lower-scoring matchup.
Prediction: Florida 24, Kentucky 17
