Jackson State handled Hampton behind a strong start from quarterback Jacobian Morgan, who threw for 143 yards on 15-of-30 passing. Running back Ahmad Miller took over with 172 yards and 2 touchdowns on just 10 carries, powering the Tigers to a balanced offensive attack. The win was a continuation of a dominant stretch from late last season, where Jackson State outscored opponents by a combined 161-44 over the final four games.

Defensively, the Tigers allowed just 14 points and limited Hampton’s ground game throughout. Quincy Ivory led the defense with 2 sacks and 8 total tackles, while the secondary held firm. Jackson State’s defense has now given up fewer than 15 points in four of its last five games. That group will be tested more by a mobile quarterback in Week 2, but the front line has been consistently disruptive.

However, the Golden Eagles couldn’t keep up after falling behind early and struggled to sustain drives. Receiver Carl Chester had a solid outing with 5 catches for 52 yards, but the rushing game beyond Braxton was a non-factor.

The defense gave up 34 points and was unable to contain the Bulldogs' passing game. Josh Moten recorded 12 tackles, but the unit allowed 400+ total yards for the fifth straight game. With Southern Miss now surrendering an average of 43.2 points across its last five outings, pressure is on this group to show signs of improvement quickly.
