LSU vs Auburn Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 24 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/19/2026, 11:46 AM ET

Auburn just beat the No. 1 team in the country. LSU just shut out a ranked SEC opponent. And now these two get together. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon. LSU visits Auburn at Jordan-Hare Stadium on October 24, with kickoff at noon ET on ABC or ESPN. An early betting market had LSU favored by six points, with the total at 50.5. But that line was posted before Auburn went into Athens and beat Georgia 27-24. I’d be surprised if the market didn’t take another look at it. The early forecast calls for temperatures in the upper 60s, little chance of rain, and light wind. That’s worth checking again later in the week. For more games, check out our free college football picks.

LSU Just Reminded Everybody It Can Play Defense

LSU is 5-2, and the Tigers needed Saturday’s 31-0 win over Mississippi State. They’d lost 35-34 in overtime at Kentucky the previous week, and that one had to sting. This was a different story. LSU shut out the 16th-ranked Bulldogs, scored four touchdowns through the air, and never gave Mississippi State much reason to believe it could win. The Tigers have also beaten Texas A&M 35-6 and scored 63 against McNeese. But they’ve lost at Ole Miss and Kentucky. Going into Auburn isn’t going to be easy, especially after what happened to Georgia.

The defense deserves most of the credit for that Mississippi State win. Holding an SEC opponent scoreless is tough enough. Doing it against a ranked team is another matter. LSU has shown it can get pressure and make teams settle for difficult throws. The offense has been a little less predictable. The Tigers scored 34 at Kentucky and still lost, then came home and put up 31 against Mississippi State without giving up a point. That’s the sort of difference that makes handicapping LSU interesting. If the defense plays like it did Saturday, Auburn is going to have to earn everything.

Sam Leavitt completed 31 of 38 passes for 289 yards and four touchdowns against Mississippi State. No interceptions. That’s a heck of an afternoon. He was finding his receivers, getting the ball out, and not giving the defense much to work with. Linebacker TJ Dottery made 12 tackles, while Davhon Keys added 10 and half a sack. Those guys were busy, and it showed. LSU needs another clean game from Leavitt because Auburn just proved it can punish turnovers. The Tigers can’t afford to hand the home team extra possessions.

Auburn Just Knocked Off Georgia

Auburn is 4-2 after beating Georgia 27-24 in Athens. Let that sink in. The Tigers went into Sanford Stadium, beat the top-ranked team, and did it with a field goal as time expired. They’d blown a ten-point fourth-quarter lead, too. Georgia tied the game with less than three minutes left, and it looked like Auburn might let the whole thing slip away. Instead, the Tigers recovered a late fumble and got themselves into field-goal range. That’s a win people around Auburn will be talking about for a while.

The Tigers finished with 366 yards against Georgia, including 150 through the air from their quarterback. Georgia actually had 440 yards, but the Bulldogs turned the football over three times. There’s your difference. Auburn didn’t dominate every statistical category. It made the plays that mattered. The Tigers scored 24 straight points at one stage and forced Georgia to chase them. LSU’s defense will be tougher to move against than some of Auburn’s earlier opponents, so the Tigers can’t count on getting all those extra possessions again. They’ll need to sustain drives without waiting for somebody else to make a mistake.

Byrum Brown was a problem for Georgia. He threw for 150 yards and ran for 115 more. That’s 265 yards from one guy, and the rushing production is what really changes the matchup. LSU can’t just rush upfield and forget about the quarterback keeping the ball. Brown can make a defense pay for that. Auburn also got a big late defensive play from Cody Sigler, whose forced fumble helped set up the winning field goal. Alex McPherson finished the job with a 34-yard kick. Auburn has some confidence now. Plenty of it. The question is whether the Tigers can bring the same energy home after a win that big.

LSU vs Auburn Picks and Predictions

Auburn +6

Give me Auburn and the six points. I know LSU just shut out Mississippi State, and that defense looked terrific. But Auburn went into Georgia and won, and I don’t think that was some complete accident. Brown gives the Tigers a running threat at quarterback, and Jordan-Hare is going to be loud after that Georgia upset. LSU can win this game. Its passing attack might be the best unit on the field. But laying six on the road against an Auburn team that just beat No. 1 Georgia? I’m not interested. I’d rather have the points. If the number drops under a field goal, we’d have to talk about it again.

Under 50.5 Points

I’ll take the under 50.5. LSU just held Mississippi State scoreless, and Auburn held Georgia to 24 despite giving up 440 yards. Both defenses can make stops when they have to. Auburn is going to want Brown running the football, which should help keep the clock moving. LSU has enough passing talent to make this uncomfortable, especially if Leavitt stays as sharp as he was Saturday. And defensive turnovers could create easy points. That’s the worry. Still, I think both teams spend a good part of the afternoon fighting for field position. A 24-21 game wouldn’t surprise me.
