Minnesota vs Indiana Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 31 2026
Indiana is laying more than twenty points against a Minnesota team that just beat Iowa. That sounds like the sort of bet that gets somebody laughed out of the bar. The Hoosiers are 7-1, they’ve been excellent defensively, and they just won at Michigan. But that Michigan game ended 13-6 in overtime. Indiana scored six points in regulation, and now we’re supposed to expect the Hoosiers to blow out a team that just held Iowa to ten? I’m not buying that number. Minnesota visits Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana, on Saturday, October 31, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET on CBS. Indiana is favored by 20.5 points, down from an opening number around 22.5, with the total at 45.5. The early forecast calls for temperatures around 71 degrees, winds near 4 mph, and a slight chance of rain. Weather shouldn’t have much influence unless conditions change.
Minnesota Has Been Winning With Defense
Minnesota is 5-2 overall after beating Iowa 13-10 on Saturday. The Golden Gophers have now won two of their last three, with the loss coming against Northwestern. Minnesota also beat Michigan 20-14 earlier this month, which makes the Indiana matchup particularly interesting. The Gophers aren’t going to win many games with their offense alone, but they’ve shown they can keep better teams uncomfortable. Iowa came into Minneapolis ranked in the top 15 and left with a loss. That’s not something Indiana should overlook.
The Gophers managed only 209 yards against Iowa, so I’m not pretending the offense is suddenly fixed. Minnesota has struggled to generate explosive plays, and the passing game hasn’t been particularly productive against stronger defenses. Indiana just held Michigan to six points, which makes this a difficult matchup. Minnesota needs to run the football effectively enough to avoid third-and-long situations and protect possession. The Gophers aren’t going to win a shootout against Indiana. Their best chance is to keep the score low and make every possession matter.

Minnesota’s defense is the reason I like the underdog. The Gophers held Iowa to ten points and 90 rushing yards, and they kept Michigan to 14 earlier this month. That’s two strong defensive performances against physical Big Ten opponents. Indiana has more offensive talent than either, but the Hoosiers haven’t been scoring freely against quality competition lately. Minnesota needs to prevent explosive plays and force Indiana to sustain long drives. If the Gophers can do that, this could be a much closer game than the spread suggests.
Indiana Has Been Surviving Some Tough Games
Indiana is 7-1 overall and 4-1 in Big Ten play after beating Michigan 13-6 in overtime. The Hoosiers have won seven of eight, and their only loss came against Ohio State, 19-15. That’s an impressive résumé. Indiana also beat Nebraska 20-17 and Northwestern 29-23, so the Hoosiers have been tested. The problem for anyone laying 20.5 is that Indiana hasn’t been blowing out the better teams on its schedule. The defense has been carrying a lot of the load.
Indiana’s early-season offense was tremendous. The Hoosiers scored 52 against North Texas, 55 against Howard, and 38 against Western Kentucky. But the conference schedule has been much tougher. Indiana scored 20 at Nebraska, 15 against Ohio State, and 13 at Michigan. Those are three games totaling 48 points. The Hoosiers have been facing better defenses, and Minnesota is another team capable of making things difficult. Indiana should still move the ball, but expecting 35 or 40 points against this defense seems optimistic.
Defensively, Indiana has been outstanding. The Hoosiers held Michigan to six points and created ten tackles for loss Saturday. That’s a defense capable of wrecking an opponent’s offensive game plan. Minnesota’s offensive line will have to protect much better than it did against Iowa, and the Gophers need to avoid negative plays. Indiana should have a major advantage when Minnesota has the football. But the Hoosiers don’t have to score 40 to win this game. If they get ahead by ten or fourteen, they can lean on their defense and control the clock. That’s another reason I don’t like laying more than twenty.
Minnesota vs Indiana Picks and Predictions
Minnesota +20.5
Give me Minnesota with 20.5 points. Indiana is the better team, and the Hoosiers should win at home. But Minnesota just beat Iowa and has already beaten Michigan, two teams that have made Indiana work for its victories. The Gophers aren’t going to score much, but their defense is good enough to keep this from getting completely out of hand. The concern is Indiana’s pass rush. If Minnesota can’t protect the quarterback, the Hoosiers could create turnovers and short fields. But I think the Gophers hang around. A 24-10 Indiana win makes much more sense to me than a three-touchdown blowout.
Under 45.5
I’m taking Under 45.5. Minnesota just played a 13-10 game, Indiana just played a 13-6 overtime game, and both defenses have been excellent. Neither offense has been particularly explosive against strong competition lately. Indiana should have the advantage, but I don’t expect the Hoosiers to score 40 against Minnesota. The Gophers could struggle to reach double digits, which is the biggest concern for the over. The danger is defensive touchdowns or turnovers creating short fields. But I think this stays in the low 30s or high 30s combined. Give me the under.
