Navy Preview
The Midshipmen have gotten off to a strong start, outscoring opponents 90-31 through two games. Quarterback Blake Horvath has been extremely efficient, completing 12 of 15 passes for 234 yards and two touchdowns. While Navy’s offense is always centered around the ground game, having a capable passer adds another layer of difficulty for defenses. Running back Alex Tecza has been the workhorse, carrying the ball 30 times for 200 yards and two scores.
The Navy's ability to wear down defenses with long drives has been critical in building leads. Wide receiver Eli Heidenreich gives them a reliable option in the passing game, posting 86 receiving yards and a touchdown. The Midshipmen also continue to bring a trademark physicality up front, opening running lanes and controlling time of possession. If they can dictate pace and tempo on the road, they’ll put themselves in an excellent position.
Tulsa Preview
Tulsa comes in looking to bounce back after a 21-14 loss at New Mexico State. Quarterback Kirk Francis has shown he can move the ball through the air, completing 33 of 54 passes for 318 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. The Golden Hurricane offense leans on running back Dominic Richardson, who has piled up 235 rushing yards on 40 carries. Establishing him early will be key to keeping the Navy's defense honest.
The passing attack has also leaned on wideout Zion Booker, who leads the team with 124 yards and a touchdown on 15 receptions. Tulsa will need more explosive plays if it hopes to challenge a Navy squad that thrives on controlling possession. The challenge is avoiding long stretches without scoring, as that can allow Navy to shorten the game and lean on its ground attack.
Navy vs Tulsa Pick
This matchup tilts toward the Midshipmen, who have been consistent on both sides of the ball to open the season. Navy’s rushing attack and efficient quarterback play should be enough to separate in the second half.
Prediction: Navy 31, Tulsa 21
