Nevada Wolf Pack Have Found Success With Their Rushing Attack
Nevada enters Saturday at 2-3 overall and 1-1 in Mountain West play after earning its first conference victory against UTEP. The Wolf Pack endured a difficult opening stretch that included three consecutive losses, but Saturday’s performance provided an encouraging response. Nevada established control early against the Miners, building a 13-7 halftime advantage before pulling away during the second half. The Wolf Pack scored 17 unanswered points after halftime before UTEP added a late touchdown, securing an important 30-13 victory.
The most impressive aspect of Nevada’s performance was its rushing production. The Wolf Pack generated 274 rushing yards and 376 total yards while holding possession for more than 35 minutes. Nevada also finished with 21 first downs compared with UTEP’s nine, demonstrating an ability to sustain drives and prevent the opposition from establishing an offensive rhythm. Defensively, the Wolf Pack limited UTEP to 211 total yards and 79 rushing yards. Nevada also prevented the Miners from converting all but one of their 14 third-down opportunities, an impressive performance that helped control the contest.
Saturday presents a considerably more difficult assignment against North Dakota State. The Bison have demonstrated a dominant defensive approach throughout much of the season, including a 28-0 victory over Wyoming. Nevada needs to maintain its rushing production without becoming predictable against a defense comfortable defending physical opponents. The Wolf Pack also have to avoid falling behind early because North Dakota State has shown an ability to control possession and protect advantages. Nevada’s improved defensive performance provides some encouragement, but the competition will be significantly stronger than UTEP.

North Dakota State Bison Looking to Recover From First Defeat
North Dakota State enters Saturday at 5-1 overall and 2-1 in Mountain West play after suffering a disappointing 13-7 defeat against UNLV. The Bison opened their first FBS season with five consecutive victories, defeating Jacksonville State, Fordham, Air Force, Sacramento State, and Wyoming. Those performances demonstrated considerable defensive discipline and an ability to compete against established programs. However, Saturday’s defeat exposed some offensive limitations that North Dakota State will need to address before facing Nevada.
The Bison had been particularly impressive defensively before their loss against UNLV. North Dakota State shut out Fordham 38-0 and Wyoming 28-0, demonstrating an ability to prevent opponents from establishing consistent scoring opportunities. Against UNLV, the defense again performed well enough to secure a victory, allowing only 13 points. The offense, however, struggled to generate sustained production and couldn’t overcome a disciplined Rebels defense. North Dakota State managed just seven points, its lowest output of the season, ending an undefeated start that had generated considerable excitement.
Returning to the Fargodome should provide an important advantage for the Bison, who have won all three home games this season. North Dakota State has demonstrated an ability to establish its rushing attack and control the line of scrimmage, an approach that could become particularly important against Nevada. However, the Wolf Pack enter following a performance in which they dominated possession and generated significant rushing production of their own. The Bison need to prevent Nevada from establishing comfortable gains on early downs while improving the offensive execution that was missing against UNLV. North Dakota State remains the stronger team, but responding effectively to its first defeat will be important.
Nevada vs North Dakota State Picks and Predictions
Pick: North Dakota State Bison -14.5 (-106)
I’m taking North Dakota State to cover the 14.5-point spread. Nevada deserves respect after its convincing victory against UTEP, but the Bison present a considerably more difficult defensive challenge. North Dakota State has allowed only 62 points through six games, averaging approximately 10.3 per contest, and has already recorded two shutout victories. The Wolf Pack generated impressive rushing production against UTEP, although repeating that performance against a disciplined Bison defense will be difficult. North Dakota State also benefits from returning home after its first defeat, providing an opportunity to regain momentum. The Bison need better offensive execution than they delivered against UNLV, but Nevada has struggled against stronger opponents during portions of its opening schedule. North Dakota State should be capable of controlling the line of scrimmage and gradually creating enough separation to cover the spread.
Pick: Under 45.5 Points (-105)
The Under 45.5 is the total pick. North Dakota State has established a defensive identity that has limited opponents to approximately ten points per game, and its last two contests produced just 28 and 20 combined points. Nevada demonstrated impressive defensive improvement against UTEP, allowing only 13 points and preventing the Miners from sustaining drives. Both teams also have productive rushing attacks, creating the possibility of longer possessions and fewer opportunities for explosive scoring. North Dakota State should generate more offense than it managed against UNLV, but Nevada has shown an ability to control the clock when its ground game is effective. A 27-10 or 30-13 North Dakota State victory is a reasonable possibility, making the Under the preferred total.
Final Picks: North Dakota State Bison -14.5 (-106) and Under 45.5 Points (-105)
