North Texas vs Navy Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 24 2026
Navy just scored 34 points and lost. That’s usually a pretty lousy feeling, especially when you’re a team that likes to run the football and keep the other offense sitting on the bench. The Midshipmen lost 38-34 at UTSA, and now North Texas is coming to Annapolis. Not exactly the opponent I’d pick when my defense is having trouble getting stops.
North Texas visits Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 PM ET. The betting market wasn’t showing a dependable spread or total in the listings I checked, so those numbers still need to be confirmed. Weather is another one to check later in the week, particularly the wind off the Chesapeake Bay. That can make a difference in the passing game. North Texas Needs To Make Navy Chase Points
North Texas is 4-2, and the Mean Green have been one of the more entertaining teams in the American Conference. They’re 3-0 at home but only 1-2 away from Denton. That’s the part that bothers me. Winning at Navy isn’t like playing another Saturday afternoon at home. The Midshipmen are going to try to keep the ball for five or six minutes at a time, and North Texas may have fewer chances to score than it’s used to getting. The Mean Green beat Navy 31-17 last season, so they’ve shown they can handle the matchup.
North Texas has gone over the betting total in five of its six games. That tells you something about the way these games have been playing out. The Mean Green can score, but opponents have been finding points, too. Against Navy, the big job is staying disciplined against the option. Don’t chase the quarterback and forget the pitch man. Don’t let a fullback run straight up the middle because everybody is looking outside. Navy isn’t going to surprise anybody with its offensive philosophy, but teams still get caught guessing.

North Texas needs its quarterback and receivers to take advantage when Navy brings extra defenders toward the line. The Mean Green should have opportunities to throw, especially after UTSA put 38 on the Midshipmen. But the offensive line has to protect long enough for those plays to develop. The other concern is turnovers. Against a team that can chew up the clock, one interception might cost you two possessions by the time you get the ball back. That’s a pretty expensive mistake.
Navy Can’t Keep Giving Up This Many Points
Navy is 2-4 after Saturday’s 38-34 loss at UTSA. The Midshipmen beat Tulsa 34-26 the week before, so the offense has scored 68 points in two games. That’s the good news. The bad news is they’ve allowed 64. Navy started the season by beating Towson, then lost three straight to Florida Atlantic, UAB, and Air Force. The Tulsa win offered a little hope. Now they’re back under .500 and need to get something going before Notre Dame shows up the following week.
Navy scored 42 against Towson, 30 against Florida Atlantic, 34 against Tulsa, and 34 against UTSA. So the offense isn’t completely lost. The trouble comes when opponents force the Midshipmen to play from behind. Navy wants to run the option, control the clock, and make you defend every inch of the field. It doesn’t want to spend the fourth quarter throwing because it’s down two touchdowns. North Texas has been involved in plenty of high-scoring games, and Navy needs to make sure this doesn’t turn into another one.
The Midshipmen’s quarterback has to make the right reads, and the backs have to hang on to the football. That’s pretty much the whole deal with an option offense. One missed assignment can turn a five-yard gain into a touchdown. One bad pitch can give North Texas the ball near midfield. Navy also needs better tackling than it showed against UTSA. The offense did enough to win that game. The defense didn’t. If that happens again, the Midshipmen are going to be looking at another loss.
North Texas vs Navy Picks and Predictions
North Texas Moneyline — Price Pending
I’m taking North Texas to win, but I’d want the moneyline before making this an actual wager. Navy can make this uncomfortable by running the clock, and Annapolis isn’t the easiest place to visit. But the Midshipmen have allowed 38, 26, and 38 points in three of their last five games. North Texas has enough offense to take advantage. The Mean Green need to stay patient and avoid getting frustrated when Navy takes six minutes to score. I think North Texas makes more big plays and wins a close one.
Over — Total Pending
I’d lean over once we have a confirmed total, provided the sportsbook hasn’t already priced in a shootout. Navy’s last two games finished with 60 and 72 combined points. North Texas has gone over in five of six games. That’s a pretty good starting point. The problem is the Navy offense can burn half a quarter on one drive, and that can kill an over even when both teams are moving the ball. I think North Texas can force Navy to score more than it wants to. But I’m not putting a number on this pick until the actual total is available.
Final Picks: North Texas Moneyline (price pending) and Over (total pending)
