The Northwestern State Demons visit Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota Saturday to play the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Northwestern State opened its regular season with a 20-10 victory over Alcorn State on Thursday. The Demons gained 270 yards of total offense and allowed 301 yards of offense to the Braves, but forced three turnovers.

Northwestern State quarterback Abram Johnston has thrown for 85 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Johnston is also the leading rusher with 69 yards, while Myion Hicks has rushed for 53 yards. Kody Finley is the leading receiver with 26 yards. The Northwestern State defense made one sack and intercepted two passes in its opening game.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are 1-0 following a 23-10 victory over the Buffalo Bulls last Thursday. The Golden Gophers led 13-0 at the break and held on in the fourth quarter. Minnesota gained 443 yards of total offense, while holding Buffalo to just 151 yards of total offense. Minnesota used a balanced attack, gaining 153 yards rushing and 290 yards through the air.

Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey passed for 290 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Darius Taylor led all rushers for Minnesota with 141 yards, while the leading receiver was Jalen Smith with 76 yards and one touchdown reception. Maverick Baranowski was the leading tackler with 10. The Golden Gophers had 2.0 sacks but did not make any interceptions.

Minnesota vs Northwestern State Prediction

The Minnesota Golden Gophers won in workmanlike fashion on opening night with a 13-point victory over Buffalo. The Golden Gophers will perform better on Saturday against a less-talented opponent, using the talented passing arm of Drake Lindsey and a running game led by Darius Taylor, who had 141 yards in the win over Buffalo. Northwestern State will not be able to drive down the field against a much tougher defense than the Demons are accustomed to. Final Score Prediction: Minnesota Golden Gophers win and cover ATS 43-3.
