Oregon vs Illinois Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 24 2026
Oregon won Saturday, but I’m not sure anybody in Eugene was celebrating the offense. The Ducks beat Nebraska 17-14, and for three quarters they couldn’t do much of anything. Then they changed quarterbacks, put together a couple of long drives, and escaped. Now they’re going to Illinois, where the Illini have had an extra week to prepare.
Oregon visits Illinois at Gies Memorial Stadium in Champaign on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM ET on Big Ten Network. Oregon opened as a 12.5-point favorite, with the total at 50.5. That’s a lot of points to lay with a team that just scored 17 at home. The early weather details still need a closer check for temperature, wind, gusts, and rain. October in Champaign can change in a hurry. Check out our free college football picks for more predictions.
Oregon Found A Way To Win, Barely
Oregon is 4-2 and 2-1 in Big Ten play. The Ducks beat Nebraska 17-14 Saturday, and they needed a fourth-quarter comeback to do it. Nebraska led 14-6 entering the final quarter, and Oregon’s offense had been going nowhere. The Ducks had only 91 yards through three quarters. Ninety-one! That’s not going to scare anybody. But Oregon changed quarterbacks, started moving the football, and scored the winning touchdown with 28 seconds left. A win is a win, but that wasn’t exactly a performance that makes me want to lay double digits on the road.
Oregon finished with 242 total yards against Nebraska. The Ducks ran for 129 and threw for 113. They converted only three of 17 third downs. That’s terrible. The defense kept them in the game, holding Nebraska to 242 yards and 14 points. That unit deserves some credit. The offense, though, needs to figure out what it’s doing. Illinois has had an extra week to prepare, and Bret Bielema isn’t going to be impressed by an offense that struggles to move the chains. Oregon has the athletes to make big plays, but it needs better execution up front.

Dylan Raiola came off the bench against Nebraska and completed 11 of 18 passes for 59 yards and a touchdown. Those aren’t huge numbers, but he led the winning drive. Brock Thomas started and went 9 of 20 for 54 yards with an interception. That’s a quarterback situation worth watching. Dierre Hill Jr. ran for 67 yards on 14 carries, giving Oregon some useful production on the ground. Dante Moore has been dealing with a concussion, and his availability remains important. Until Oregon settles the quarterback position, I’m not comfortable assuming the Ducks will suddenly score 40 points every week.
Illinois Has Had Time To Get Ready
Illinois is 3-3, and the Illini are coming off a 38-37 overtime win over Michigan State. That game could have gone either way, but Illinois found enough offense to survive. The Illini are 1-2 in Big Ten play, so they’re still trying to get themselves into a better position in the conference. They’ve had a bye week to prepare for Oregon, and that matters. Bielema has had extra time to look at the Ducks’ offensive problems, and I’d expect Illinois to have a few wrinkles ready defensively.
The Illini scored 38 against Michigan State, which is encouraging. But they also gave up 37, and that’s not exactly the kind of defensive performance you want heading into a game against Oregon. Illinois needs to tackle better and keep the Ducks from getting easy yards on the ground. Oregon’s offense has been struggling, but it still has enough speed to punish missed assignments. The Illini also need to protect the football. If they give Oregon short fields, that takes away the advantage of forcing the Ducks to sustain long drives.
Katin Houser threw for 194 yards and a touchdown against Michigan State before leaving with an injury. Michael Clayton II came in and threw for 88 yards and two touchdowns. That’s a pretty good job by the backup, especially in a close game. But now Illinois has a quarterback question of its own. Houser’s status needs to be checked before Saturday. Clayton showed he can make plays, but facing Oregon’s defense is a different challenge. Illinois needs its running game to help whichever quarterback starts. If the Illini can keep Oregon’s defense honest, they’ve got a chance to make this interesting.
Oregon vs Illinois Picks and Predictions
Illinois +12.5 (-110)
I’m taking Illinois and the points. Oregon is the better team on paper, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Ducks win. But twelve and a half points? After Oregon managed 242 yards against Nebraska? That’s asking a lot. The Ducks have quarterback questions, they’re going on the road, and Illinois has had an extra week to prepare. The Illini have their own quarterback concerns, so I’m not pretending this is a sure thing. But I think Illinois can keep it close if it avoids turnovers. Give me the points at home.
Under 50.5 Points (-110)
I’m going under 50.5. Oregon’s offense has been struggling, and the Ducks just played a 17-14 game. Their defense has been much more reliable, which should make things difficult for Illinois. The Illini scored 38 against Michigan State, but Oregon’s defense is a different challenge. The biggest concern is turnovers. Both teams have quarterback uncertainty, and one or two bad throws could set up easy touchdowns. But I think Oregon tries to establish the run and Illinois makes the Ducks earn their points. A 27-17 finish wouldn’t surprise me.
Final Picks: Illinois +12.5 (-110) and Under 50.5 Points (-110)
