Sacred Heart moved the ball well despite losing its opener, producing 408 total yards with 191 through the air and 217 on the ground. Poochie Snyder completed 14 of 25 passes for 191 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Snyder also contributed 67 rushing yards on 15 carries. Chuck Webb led the Pioneers with 72 yards on 18 attempts, while Darius Chukwuemeka added 43 yards on only three carries. Sacred Heart did not score a rushing touchdown despite its success on the ground.
Dean Hangey gave Snyder a dangerous downfield option, finishing with five receptions for 110 yards and two touchdowns, including a 52-yard catch. Massachusetts Minutemen Preview
UMass opened the season with a strong 37-21 victory at Rutgers, producing 397 total yards. William Watson III was accurate throughout the game, completing 19 of 22 passes for 197 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. The Minutemen added 200 rushing yards on 41 attempts. Curtis Kimmons IV led that attack with 78 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, while Elijah Faulkner contributed 62 yards on 19 attempts and Watson added another 40 yards.
Joseph Griffin Jr. caught two passes for 61 yards and a touchdown, while T.Y. Harding led UMass with five receptions for 55 yards. Faulkner also caught two touchdown passes out of the backfield. The defense created five sacks and three interceptions against Rutgers. Jahmad Harmon accounted for two picks, while Romando Johnson had a sack, forced fumble and recovery. Timmy Hinspeter led the Minutemen with 10 tackles, and Zeraun Daniel added seven tackles and a sack.
Injuries: RB Jordan Washington is questionable with an undisclosed injury. Washington did not record a carry or reception in UMass' opening victory over Rutgers.
Sacred Heart vs UMass Prediction
Sacred Heart showed enough offensively against Monmouth to make this interesting, especially with Snyder producing through the air and on the ground. UMass, however, brings a more difficult defensive matchup after forcing three interceptions and generating five sacks against Rutgers. Watson also protected the football while completing 19 of 22 passes, and the Minutemen balanced that passing production with 200 rushing yards. Sacred Heart's defense did not create enough pressure in its opener, giving UMass the advantage at home. Final Score Prediction: UMass Minutemen win, 44-13.
