San Diego State vs Colorado State Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 24 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/19/2026, 12:17 PM ET

Colorado State just gave up 66 points. Sixty-six! Texas State ran for 503 yards against the Rams, and I’m not sure how you sit through that film session without getting a headache. Now San Diego State comes to Fort Collins, and the Aztecs have to be looking at that run defense and thinking they can have themselves a pretty good afternoon.

San Diego State visits Colorado State at Canvas Stadium on Saturday, October 24, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM ET on The CW. The Aztecs are slight favorites, around 1.5 points, and the total is 58.5. The Fort Collins weather needs a fresh check, particularly the wind and gusts. Both teams have had trouble defensively, and this could turn into a game where the last team with the football wins. Check out our free college football picks for more predictions.

San Diego State Finally Got A Win

San Diego State is 3-4, and the Aztecs beat Fresno State 26-23 Saturday. They needed that one. The week before, Oregon State beat them 66-14. That’s the sort of loss that makes you wonder whether everybody got on the same plane. San Diego State also lost 41-16 at Toledo and 28-10 at UCLA. The Aztecs have had a rough time away from home, and now they’re heading to Fort Collins to face a team that’s desperate to stop losing.

The Aztecs haven’t been consistent offensively. They scored 53 against Portland State, 31 against Texas State, and 26 against Fresno State. But they also managed 10 against UCLA, 13 against James Madison, and 14 against Oregon State. That’s quite a range. Colorado State has been allowing points by the truckload, so this is a chance for San Diego State to get something going. The Aztecs need to run the football and keep the Rams from bringing extra pressure. After what Texas State did on the ground, I’d be surprised if San Diego State didn’t try to establish the run early.

San Diego State needs better quarterback play and more consistency from its offensive line. The Aztecs have shown they can move the ball against certain opponents, but they haven’t been able to do it every week. The Fresno State win should help their confidence. Still, I’d be careful about expecting another offensive explosion just because Colorado State got embarrassed Thursday. The Rams have had extra time to make adjustments, and they’ll be angry. San Diego State needs to take advantage of the matchup without getting careless with the football.

Colorado State Has To Find Somebody Who Can Tackle

Colorado State is 2-4, and the Rams have lost four straight. They started the season by beating Wyoming 35-13 and Southern Utah 58-24. Since then, they’ve lost to BYU, UTSA, Oregon State, and Texas State. The last three have been particularly ugly defensively. UTSA scored 59, Oregon State scored 56, and Texas State put up 66. That’s 181 points allowed in three games. You don’t need to be a defensive coordinator to know that’s a problem.

Texas State finished with 716 total yards against Colorado State, including 503 rushing. The Rams allowed eight rushing touchdowns. Eight! Colorado State had 430 yards of offense itself, so the offense wasn’t completely useless. But when the other team scores 66, you’re not going to win many games. The Rams have to tackle better, fill gaps, and stop giving opponents easy runs through the middle. San Diego State isn’t Texas State offensively, but the Aztecs will certainly try to exploit the same weaknesses.

K’saan Farrar threw for 282 yards against Texas State, and Colorado State got some production from the passing game. Mel Brown has 431 rushing yards this season, while RJ Vick leads the receiving group with 367. There’s enough offense here to score points. The trouble is that the defense keeps putting the Rams in a hole. Farrar shouldn’t have to throw for 400 yards just to keep the game competitive. Colorado State needs a few stops. Just a few. If the Rams can force punts instead of touchdowns, they might actually have a chance to win.

San Diego State vs Colorado State Picks and Predictions

San Diego State -1.5 (-106)

I’m taking San Diego State. Colorado State has the home field, and the Rams can score, but I can’t get past that defense. One hundred eighty-one points allowed in three games is ridiculous. San Diego State isn’t an offensive powerhouse, but the Aztecs just beat Fresno State and should have some confidence. Colorado State has been getting pushed around up front, and I think San Diego State can take advantage. The concern is the Aztecs’ road record. They haven’t been good away from San Diego. But at less than a field goal, I’ll take the team that’s at least been getting some stops lately.

Over 58.5 Points (-112)

I’m going over 58.5. Colorado State has allowed 59, 56, and 66 points in its last three games. That’s almost enough to get an over by itself. The Rams have also scored 45, 26, and 27 in those games, so the offense can contribute. San Diego State hasn’t been consistent, but this is a favorable matchup against a defense that just gave up 503 rushing yards. The danger is the Aztecs getting conservative and slowing everything down. But I think both teams find enough offense to push this over. A 34-30 finish wouldn’t surprise me.

Final Picks: San Diego State -1.5 (-106) and Over 58.5 Points (-112)
