In Saturday afternoon college football action, the UC Davis Aggies will travel to Gerald J. Ford Stadium to face the SMU Mustangs. Since joining the ACC Conference in 2024, the SMU Mustangs have won the most games in the conference. The 17th-ranked Mustangs (1-0) are one of the top teams in the country in terms of returning production and have a schedule that is conducive to making a College Football Playoff run. On Monday, SMU withstood a two-hour delay due to a power outage and overcame four turnovers to escape with a 27-24 road victory against Florida State.

Senior QB Kevin Jennings threw for a career-best 430 yards and two touchdowns. Jennings added 33 rushing yards and is a darkhorse Heisman Trophy candidate. ECU transfer WR Yannick Smith caught five passes for 107 yards and a score. The Mustangs recorded three sacks and the experienced offensive line did not allow one.
