Utah vs Colorado Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 17 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/11/2026, 11:39 PM ET

The Utah Utes visit the Colorado Buffaloes at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado, on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:15 PM ET, with coverage on ESPN or ESPN2. Utah enters undefeated following an impressive 41-24 victory over Kansas, while Colorado returns from its bye week after suffering a 29-7 loss against Texas Tech on October 3. The Utes have demonstrated considerable offensive consistency throughout the opening portion of the season, while Colorado has struggled to generate enough scoring opportunities against Big 12 opponents. Utah is favored by 14.5 points at FanDuel in an October 11 market listing, with the total set at 50.5 points. Utah Utes Have Established Themselves as Big 12 Contenders

Utah enters Saturday at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Big 12 play following another impressive offensive performance. The Utes opened their season with convincing victories over Idaho, Arkansas, and Utah State before earning a 31-17 road victory against Iowa State. Saturday’s 41-24 win over Kansas continued their undefeated start and demonstrated the offensive balance that has made Utah one of the conference’s most dangerous teams. The Utes have now scored at least 30 points in 11 consecutive games dating back to last season, an impressive demonstration of consistency.

The performance against Kansas was particularly encouraging because Utah controlled possession and generated substantial offensive production. The Utes finished with 545 total yards, including 287 rushing and 258 passing. Utah also recorded 31 first downs and held possession for more than 39 minutes, limiting Kansas to fewer opportunities despite allowing 24 points. The Utes converted seven of 12 third-down attempts and demonstrated an ability to sustain drives while also generating explosive plays. That combination has made them difficult to defend throughout the opening schedule.

Through five games, Utah has scored 214 points while allowing only 65, averaging 42.8 scored and 13.0 allowed per contest. Those numbers reflect considerable balance, although Saturday’s performance against Kansas demonstrated that the defense isn’t entirely invulnerable. Utah allowed 333 passing yards and needed a strong fourth quarter to create separation after Kansas reduced the deficit to three points. Colorado presents an opportunity for the Utes to continue their success, but they need to maintain their defensive discipline and avoid allowing the Buffaloes to generate confidence through early scoring opportunities.

Colorado Buffaloes Need to Find More Offensive Production

Colorado enters Saturday at 2-3 overall and 0-2 in Big 12 play after three consecutive defeats. The Buffaloes opened the season with a narrow 14-13 victory over Georgia Tech before overwhelming Weber State 52-21. However, their schedule became considerably more difficult, and Colorado suffered losses against Northwestern, Baylor, and Texas Tech. The Buffaloes have struggled offensively during that stretch, particularly against opponents capable of controlling the line of scrimmage.

Colorado’s most recent defeat against Texas Tech illustrated its offensive limitations. The Buffaloes managed only seven points while surrendering 29, continuing a stretch in which they have scored seven, 13, and seven points during consecutive losses. Colorado has averaged 18.6 points while allowing 25.4 through five games, but its offensive numbers are heavily influenced by the 52-point performance against Weber State. Against its other four opponents, the Buffaloes have managed just 41 combined points. That lack of consistent production is particularly concerning before facing a Utah defense allowing only 13 points per game.

The Buffaloes should benefit from returning home following their bye week, and the additional preparation time could help address some of their offensive problems. However, Utah presents a difficult challenge because the Utes can generate substantial scoring production while controlling possession. Colorado needs to establish an effective rushing attack and prevent the Utes from dominating time of possession as they did against Kansas. The Buffaloes also need to avoid turnovers and costly penalties that provide Utah with favorable field position. Colorado has demonstrated the ability to compete in close games, but recent offensive performances suggest Saturday will require a significant improvement.

Utah vs Colorado Picks and Predictions

Pick: Utah Utes -14.5

I’m taking Utah to cover the 14.5-point spread. The Utes have been considerably more consistent on both sides of the football, averaging 42.8 points while allowing only 13.0. Colorado has struggled offensively during three consecutive defeats, scoring just 27 combined points against Northwestern, Baylor, and Texas Tech. That makes keeping pace with Utah a difficult assignment, particularly if the Utes establish their rushing attack and control possession. Colorado deserves some consideration for playing at home and benefiting from additional preparation time, but the difference in offensive production is substantial. Utah has demonstrated an ability to generate sustained drives and explosive plays, while Colorado has struggled to move the football against stronger opponents. The Utes should be capable of establishing enough separation to win by more than two touchdowns.

Pick: Over 50.5 Points

The Over 50.5 is the total pick. Utah has scored at least 31 points in every game this season and enters following a 41-point performance against Kansas. The Utes have demonstrated enough offensive balance to generate opportunities against a Colorado defense that has struggled during its losing streak. Colorado’s recent scoring production is concerning, but the Buffaloes could benefit from returning home after additional preparation time. Utah also surrendered 24 points against Kansas, demonstrating that opponents can generate scoring opportunities when they establish an effective passing attack. The Utes may account for a substantial portion of the total themselves, reducing the offensive burden on Colorado. A 38-14 or 41-13 Utah victory is realistic, making the Over the preferred selection at 50.5.

Final Picks: Utah Utes -14.5 and Over 50.5 Points
