Washington State vs Oregon State Picks and Predictions for Saturday October 17 2026

By: Kim Smith Published 10/11/2026, 11:55 PM ET

The Washington State Cougars visit the Oregon State Beavers at Reser Stadium in Corvallis, Oregon, on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 PM ET. Washington State enters at 1-5 following a heartbreaking 17-16 loss against Utah State on Friday, while Oregon State improved to 4-2 after overwhelming San Diego State 66-14 on Saturday. The Beavers have demonstrated considerable offensive improvement during their recent performances, while Washington State has struggled to generate consistent scoring opportunities. Oregon State is favored by 13.5 points in an October 11 betting listing, with the total set at 48.5 points. Washington State Cougars Need to Find More Offensive Production

Washington State enters Saturday with a disappointing 1-5 record after suffering its fifth defeat in six games. The Cougars opened the season with consecutive losses against Washington and Kansas State before earning their only victory, a 48-7 win over Duquesne. Since then, Washington State has struggled against Arizona, Fresno State, and Utah State, failing to generate enough consistent offensive production to remain competitive against stronger opponents.

Friday’s 17-16 defeat against Utah State was particularly frustrating because Washington State had an opportunity to secure an important conference victory. The Cougars remained competitive throughout the contest but couldn’t generate enough offense to create separation. Washington State has now scored 16 points or fewer in four of its six games, an uncomfortable pattern for a team preparing to face one of the Pac-12’s most productive offenses. The Cougars have averaged 18.5 points per game while allowing 23.7, numbers that reflect their struggles moving the football and finishing scoring opportunities.

The challenge Saturday will be preventing Oregon State from establishing an early advantage. Washington State has struggled with pass protection, and its inability to convert third downs has made sustaining drives difficult. The Cougars convert only 27.3% of their third-down opportunities, forcing their defense onto the field more frequently than desired. That could become particularly costly against an Oregon State attack that has demonstrated an ability to generate substantial passing production. Washington State needs to control possession and avoid turnovers to remain competitive.

Oregon State Beavers Have Become One of the Pac-12’s Most Dangerous Offenses

Oregon State enters Saturday at 4-2 overall following its most impressive performance of the season. The Beavers overwhelmed San Diego State 66-14, demonstrating an explosive offensive attack that has become increasingly difficult for opponents to contain. Oregon State scored 38 points during the first half before adding another 28 after halftime, never allowing San Diego State to establish a competitive rhythm. The victory followed an impressive performance against Colorado State and continued the Beavers’ recent offensive improvement.

The numbers have been particularly encouraging. Oregon State has averaged 41.8 points per game while allowing 22.0, giving the Beavers one of the more productive offenses in the conference. Their passing attack has been especially effective, generating explosive gains and creating scoring opportunities throughout the lineup. Oregon State also averages 7.27 yards per offensive play, demonstrating that its production hasn’t depended entirely on lengthy drives. The Beavers have converted nearly half of their third-down opportunities, allowing them to sustain possession when explosive plays aren’t immediately available.

Playing at Reser Stadium provides another advantage against a struggling Washington State team. Oregon State has won its last two contests at home and enters with confidence following Saturday’s dominant victory. However, the Beavers must avoid becoming careless against a familiar conference opponent. Washington State has demonstrated an ability to remain competitive against the spread, covering four of its first six games despite winning only once. Oregon State needs to maintain its offensive balance and avoid turnovers that could prevent it from establishing a comfortable advantage.

Washington State vs Oregon State Picks and Predictions

Pick: Oregon State Beavers -13.5 (-110)

I’m taking Oregon State to cover the 13.5-point spread. The Beavers have demonstrated considerably more offensive consistency than Washington State, averaging 41.8 points per game while generating more than seven yards per play. Their recent 66-14 victory over San Diego State showed how dangerous the offense can become when the passing attack establishes an early rhythm. Washington State has struggled to sustain drives, converting just 27.3% of its third-down attempts and averaging only 18.5 points per game. Those limitations make it difficult to envision the Cougars keeping pace if Oregon State establishes an early advantage. Washington State has been competitive against the spread, but its offensive production hasn’t provided much reason for confidence against a team capable of generating repeated scoring opportunities. The Beavers are the preferred side at home.

Pick: Over 48.5 Points (-110)

The Over 48.5 is the total pick. Oregon State has averaged 41.8 points per game and enters following an extraordinary 66-point performance against San Diego State. Washington State’s offensive struggles create some concern because the Cougars may contribute relatively little scoring, but Oregon State possesses enough offensive ability to account for a substantial portion of the total. The Beavers have demonstrated impressive efficiency through the passing game, and Washington State’s difficulty sustaining drives could provide Oregon State with additional possessions and favorable field position. The Cougars should also have some opportunities against an Oregon State defense allowing 22 points per game. A 38-14 or 41-13 result is a realistic possibility, making the Over the preferred total.

Final Picks: Oregon State Beavers -13.5 (-110) and Over 48.5 Points (-110)
