By: Kim Smith Published 10/11/2026, 11:14 PM ET

The Washington Huskies visit the Purdue Boilermakers at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana, on Friday, October 16, 2026. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET, with coverage on FOX. Washington comes into the matchup following a disappointing 41-24 loss against Iowa, while Purdue enters after an impressive 41-13 victory over Minnesota. The Boilermakers have won consecutive Big Ten games and appear to be finding greater offensive consistency, while Washington has struggled to maintain momentum against conference opponents. Purdue is favored by 3.5 points in a consensus market, with the total set at 52.5 points. Be sure to check out our free college football picks for more predictions throughout the season.

Washington Huskies Searching for Answers After Iowa Defeat

Washington enters Friday at 3-3 overall and 0-3 in Big Ten play after suffering its third consecutive defeat. The Huskies opened the season with three victories before running into considerable difficulty against conference competition. Their latest setback against Iowa was particularly frustrating because Washington couldn’t establish control on either side of the football. The Huskies trailed 27-3 at halftime and eventually lost 41-24 despite producing a better offensive performance during the second half.

The biggest concern against Iowa was Washington’s inability to contain the rushing attack. The Huskies surrendered 263 rushing yards while finishing with negative-three rushing yards of their own. That imbalance made it difficult to sustain possessions or keep Iowa from controlling the game. Washington generated 320 passing yards and 24 first downs, demonstrating that its offense wasn’t completely ineffective, but relying so heavily on the passing game created problems. The Huskies need greater balance against a Purdue team coming off an impressive rushing performance.

Washington also faces uncertainty at quarterback after Demond Williams Jr. suffered a left shoulder injury against Iowa and didn’t return. His status for Friday remains important because the Huskies may need to adjust their offensive approach depending on his availability. Washington showed some encouraging second-half passing production after the injury, but the offense needs more than isolated successful drives to defeat Purdue. The Huskies must improve their rushing production and prevent another opponent from establishing control early.

Purdue Boilermakers Have Found Their Winning Formula

Purdue enters Friday at 3-3 overall and 2-1 in Big Ten play following consecutive victories over Illinois and Minnesota. The Boilermakers endured a difficult opening stretch, including disappointing defeats against UCLA and Notre Dame, but their recent performances suggest meaningful improvement. Purdue defeated Illinois 24-17 before overwhelming Minnesota 41-13 on Saturday, producing one of its most complete performances of the season.

The victory over Minnesota was particularly encouraging because Purdue dominated the rushing battle. The Boilermakers generated 299 rushing yards while limiting the Golden Gophers to just 25. Purdue established a 20-3 halftime advantage and continued controlling the contest during the second half. The offense demonstrated greater balance and efficiency, while the defense prevented Minnesota from generating sustained scoring opportunities. That combination should provide considerable confidence entering another home conference matchup.

The concern is whether Purdue can maintain that level of production against a Washington defense that has demonstrated stronger performances earlier in the season. The Boilermakers have struggled defensively during portions of their schedule, particularly against opponents capable of generating explosive passing plays. Washington’s passing attack could create problems if Purdue becomes careless in coverage. However, the Huskies’ inability to stop Iowa’s rushing attack presents an attractive opportunity for Purdue to establish its own ground game. The Boilermakers should benefit from playing another game at Ross-Ade Stadium and have an opportunity to extend their winning streak.

Washington vs Purdue Picks and Predictions

Pick: Purdue Boilermakers -3.5

I’m taking Purdue to cover the 3.5-point spread. The Boilermakers have demonstrated considerable improvement during consecutive conference victories, particularly through their rushing attack. Washington struggled badly against Iowa, allowing 263 rushing yards while generating virtually nothing on the ground. Purdue just rushed for 299 yards against Minnesota, making that matchup particularly favorable for the home team. The Huskies possess enough passing ability to remain competitive, but their quarterback uncertainty and defensive struggles create additional concerns. Purdue has also demonstrated greater recent confidence, and playing at home should help the Boilermakers establish their preferred approach. A victory by more than a field goal is a reasonable expectation.

Pick: Over 52.5 Points

The Over 52.5 is the total pick. Purdue has demonstrated encouraging offensive improvement, scoring 65 combined points during its last two games. Washington’s defense allowed 41 against Iowa, and its struggles containing the rushing attack could provide Purdue with opportunities to generate sustained scoring drives. The Huskies also possess enough passing ability to contribute offensively, particularly after producing 320 passing yards against Iowa. Purdue’s defense has been inconsistent during the season, leaving opportunities for Washington to generate points even if the Boilermakers control possession. The quarterback uncertainty creates some risk, but a 34-24 or 31-24 Purdue victory is realistic, making the Over the preferred total.

Final Picks: Purdue Boilermakers -3.5 and Over 52.5 Points
